Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undeniable that, in many countries, members of family tend to operate the business togather. while this practice offers impeccable advantages like loyality, shared goals and trust, there may be few demerits like family conflict and professional disagreements. In this essay we will give light to both aspects before sharing my opinion.

To begin with, let us give a highlight to a minor disadvantage first. Professional disagreement act as a major disadvantage when family members work in a business, as the selection is due to nepotism and not on merit basis. This majorly results in degraded performance. Another demerit can be family confict which can be seen in unwanted decisions and transfer of rights to a non deserving candidate. Such as a son of a businessmen who dosent know marketing tricks, when joins a family business might take decisions without an expertise in perticular field. Therefore, might result in loss for the company.

While on other hand. talking about the advantages count trust, and shared goals in the upper management, these mostly leads to development and growth in a company. The new generations when step in a family business brings newness and transperancy while contributing to always in faith of company without backoffice politics. Resulting in better control over the employees. For instance, while making a deal ofshore if promoter is not able to be present due to health issue and son of promoter represents him, reduces the risk of unfair dealing.

In conclusion, Although the disadvantages like family conflicts tend to exist, there are mojor advantages of loyality and trust while a family member leads a company. Therefore in my opinion advantage of trust and shared goals over power demerits. Leading to profitable growth of company.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of family businesses and presents a clear position throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the scenario of an offshore deal being handled by a promoter's son. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise regarding nepotism and employee control, which keeps the response at Band 7. The arguments are logical, well-structured, and directly answer the prompt's question regarding whether advantages outweigh disadvantages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall organization with a logical progression of ideas from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph serving a distinct function. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'While on other hand', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or are grammatically flawed, such as 'While on other hand.' Referencing is generally clear, and the logical flow is maintained throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'nepotism', 'demerits', 'expertise', and 'transperancy'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('togather', 'loyality', 'confict', 'dosent', 'perticular', 'transperancy', 'mojor') and occasional awkward word choices, such as 'give light to' and 'power demerits'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over multi-clause structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Professional disagreement act', 'leads to development', 'reduces the risk'), missing articles, and punctuation mistakes. For instance, the sentence starting with 'Such as a son of a businessmen' is a fragment. Because these errors persist across the response and occasionally strain comprehension, the grammar score is assessed at Band 5.5, rounded up to 6.0 for overall comprehensibility.
