Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been argued that In many countries family business dont hire external candidates in thier business instead they rely on their own members in their family to takes up the roles and run the business. This essay will discuss both the benefit and a drawback of this trend before I explain why I belive the benefits outweight the drawbacks.

One of the major reason why family runned businessess employ thier family member is because they have greater trust in them and they are highly educated in business disciplines that they join thier family business immediely after graduating. Since relatives have closer relation with the business owners the level of trust and confident in them is high that they will hand the operations quite smoothly and will not commit any fruad in the business operations. For example- In India, particulary in the State of Gujrat small business owners employy their family members in thier business to oversee the operation because if the level of trust and expertise they have with in them.

Furthermore, they are highly educated in the business disciplines and many chosses to join thier family business to implement their education and skills in thier business. This way they are able to save large amount of money in salaries and benefits if they would have hired external people.

On the other hand there are some drawbacks of this trend. One major drawback of employing family member is that they miss out on external candidates which could bring fresh perspectives and new ideas in the company. there are lot of candidates in ther job market who are talented and have all the skills and competencies to perform the job but these family business dont prefer external candidates and often times faces lossess in business due to thier own old business practices and lack of expertise. For example- small business use traditional business advertisements because their older generation owners are reluctuant to switch to the newer methods to simpy save on their budgets.

In conclusion, Althought employing family members have some drawbacks such as limited ideas and ability to change but I feel the benefits are far better and fruitfull. Family members are the most trustworthy people to trust on when running and busness and it also allow the owners to save a lot on external human capital.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, which is a strong characteristic of a higher band. The writer discusses both advantages and disadvantages, supporting arguments with relevant examples, such as mentioning small business owners in the State of Gujarat, India. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or repetitive. For instance, the discussion on trust and education in the second paragraph overlaps somewhat with financial savings. To reach a higher band, the main arguments could be more fully extended and explored with greater depth rather than reiterating similar points across paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs addressing advantages and disadvantages, and the conclusion logically. Progression is generally maintained throughout the essay. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, seen in phrases like 'Furthermore, they are highly educated' where referencing is occasionally unclear. Cohesive devices are used, but they can be repetitive or lack smooth transitions between sentences. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing nouns and pronouns links ideas more seamlessly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's ideas. The student attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'external candidates', 'human capital', and 'perspectives', demonstrating an effort to use a varied lexicon. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'thier', 'chosses', 'reluctuant', 'simpy', and 'Althought'. Additionally, collocation and word forms are occasionally awkward, such as 'faces lossess in business'. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to expand their range of less common items and eliminate basic spelling and lexical slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting multi-clause structures such as conditional and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that catch the reader's attention and can cause some difficulty. Examples include issues with subject-verb agreement ('business dont', 'family member is', 'small business use'), missing articles ('in business disciplines', 'in job market'), and incorrect prepositions or verb forms ('takes up', 'runned', 'trust on'). To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic grammatical structures, plurals, and punctuation to increase the proportion of error-free sentences.
