Student answer (Band 6.0)
Family-run businesses has increasing since families can share financial benefits among family and can keep the trust. Even though there are benefits from family businesses, some disadvantages also there. This essay will discuss both pros and cons in detail.
First in the list, families can keep trust and cooperation among the business since they already know about the members. They can keep trust with the family workers than outside workers. Moreover, family member can communicate well with each other and keep business secrets only within the corporation since they do not have outsiders. For instance, one of my freinds who has a flower shop partnering with her brother, earns higher profit since they have secret and best marketing strategies. Furthermore, family businesses can shared financial benefits among the family since they don't have outside owners. That is why I believe conducting family businesses can keep benefits within the family and maintain the trust with each other.
One the other side of the essay, family conflicts may affect the business. The reason for this is, sometime partners may have different opinions which may create misunderstandings with the family members. For example, one of my uncles, who had a business with his son bancrupted last year since the ideas mismatching within the owners. In addition, other employees may get limited opportunities in the company since owners always focus to give opportunities to their family members. That is why I believe family-run businesses also have various disadvantages like conflicts.
To conclude, although family businesses can share profits with family members and keep trust each other, some mismatches may happen.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of family businesses, presenting a clear personal stance. However, some ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the point regarding financial benefits is introduced in the first body paragraph with 'family businesses can shared financial benefits among the family since they don't have outside owners,' but it lacks broader explanation or contextual expansion. Similarly, the second body paragraph mentions that outside employees get limited opportunities, but this point is not fully extended with specific consequences or reasoning. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to ensure that every main idea is supported by deeper elaboration and fully developed arguments throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and follows a clear logical structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'First in the list,' 'Moreover,' 'Furthermore,' and 'One the other side of the essay' are employed to guide the reader through the text, successfully demonstrating the transition from the lower band to the next level. However, some cohesive elements are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'First in the list' and 'One the other side of the essay.' To improve further, the writer should use a more sophisticated and natural range of transitional phrases and ensure referencing remains precise across sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate general ideas about business advantages and disadvantages using terms like 'financial benefits,' 'cooperation,' 'business secrets,' and 'marketing strategies.' There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling. Examples include 'freinds,' 'shared' instead of 'share,' 'bancrupted,' and 'mismatching.' These errors reflect a limited range and can occasionally cause minor distraction for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire and ensure greater accuracy in word formation, spelling, and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as the concessive clause in 'Even though there are benefits from family businesses, some disadvantages also there.' However, the text contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'Family-run businesses has increasing' and missing elements like 'some disadvantages also there.' Additionally, there are persistent structural slips such as 'one of my freinds who has a flower shop partnering' and 'ideas mismatching within the owners.' These errors indicate that attempts at complex structures are often faulty and cause some difficulty for the reader. Greater control over basic agreements and verb forms is needed to progress.
