Student answer (Band 6.0)

Family members work along with each other in case of family business, in most of the coutries. I strongly think that its advantages outweigh the disadvantages because its easy to get into and the alternate schedule planning it provides.

One of the biggest positives of a family business is the ease of finding a job. They do not need to wander to a number of places to find an income source. A recent survey conducted in Nepal states that over 90 percent of well-run small businesses are being carried on by the descendants who were educated and searched for jobs in the market but were not able to find any. Beacause these businesses does not need any qualifications or references, they are easy to get into.

Another benefit is that everyone working there can switch to each other's position whenever they want and they are free to do whatever they want in the free time. One can do the household chores while the other is taking care of the customers and cooperate in case of high number of customers. It also gives them time to relax however they want in case of low volume of customers. For instance, in my friend's food van business, they used to work alternatively when they were not busy and in peak business time, they used to work together.

Therefore, it gives opportunity to deal with it with freedom and by coice.

As a result, I believe that the family businesses has more number of positives than the negatives beacause of ease to start the job and working flexibly according to the needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position that family businesses have more advantages than disadvantages, which is sustained throughout the essay. Relevant ideas are presented, such as ease of employment and scheduling flexibility. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, the first body paragraph introduces an interesting survey from Nepal regarding descendants unable to find market jobs, but the explanation remains slightly under-developed rather than fully extended with deeper analysis. Similarly, the discussion on flexible scheduling relies heavily on a single friend's food van example rather than exploring broader economic or social implications. To reach the next level, the writer needs to fully extend and support all main ideas with more robust elaboration.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion that frame the writer's position. Information and ideas are generally organized logically, moving from ease of entry into the business to daily operational flexibility. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, particularly in the transitions between paragraphs and sentences, such as starting multiple paragraphs with similar transitional structures or phrases like 'Another benefit is'. Referencing is occasionally slightly unclear, and cohesive devices are not always used with complete flexibility. Paragraphing is present and separates the main points adequately, but to achieve a higher band, the logical progression between sentences needs to be smoother and less reliant on formulaic cohesive ties.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating straightforward ideas about employment and business flexibility. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'descendants', 'alternatively', and 'cooperate', but these are accompanied by some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling errors, such as 'coutries' instead of 'countries', 'beacause' instead of 'because', and 'coice' instead of 'choice'. Furthermore, some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'search for jobs in the market' or 'deal with it with freedom'. These lexical errors and spelling slips do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the score to this level because precision and control over less common lexical items are not yet fully consistent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as in sentences involving 'descendants who were educated' or 'when they were not busy'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'businesses does not need' and 'family businesses has more number', alongside article omissions and preposition errors. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To progress further, the writer must produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences when utilizing complex structures, and tighten control over basic grammatical agreements and plurals.
