Student answer (Band 6.5)

Globally, numerous commercial organisations are jointly operated by relatives. While it limits the opportunity for other employees, it is generally beneficial for the business as leaderships consisted of family members are commited to the business.

When the business is overtaken by family members, there are various issues arise by that decision such as monopoly, nepotism, baised decisions. Moreover, the professional disputes often damages personal relation. For instance, despite the employee who is more qualified and suitable, the higher position is given to a relative. The decisions in which family agrees upon will be taken irrespective of the employees opinion. Therefore, the company's working environment basically governs by the family.

However, in the modern era, many successful businesses are handled by the families. For instance, companies like Reliance Industries and Tata are majorly run by the relatives. They provide trustability and accountability, which is required to expand the business. After expanding the business, companies not only need to make faster and swift decisions but also needs members who are commited to business. In conclusion, while it lessen the horizons of employees and degrade the working environment, the trust, minimal chance of internal sabotages, professional commitments are clear reasons why the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt by discussing both the negative aspects and the positive sides of family-run businesses, establishing a clear position throughout the response. Your main ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as referencing prominent companies like Reliance Industries and Tata to illustrate trustability and accountability. However, there is a tendency to over-generalize in places, and some arguments, such as the discussion on recruitment fairness, could have been elaborated further to show deeper exploration. Overall, the task is addressed well, presenting a well-supported argument that fulfills the core requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression throughout. You successfully divide your ideas into distinct paragraphs, opening with an introduction, exploring disadvantages followed by advantages, and closing with a summary. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In addition'. While this meets the standard for a logical flow, referencing is occasionally mechanical or slightly unclear, such as the transition into the discussion on swift decision-making. To reach the next level, cohesive devices could be managed with greater subtlety and flexibility to make the structural transitions feel entirely natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You have demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and industry-related terms such as 'monopoly', 'nepotism', 'accountability', and 'internal sabotages'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and word forms, such as 'leadershipises' (implied leaderships), 'commited' (committed), 'baised' (biased), 'trustability' (trustworthiness), and 'lessen' (lessens). These lexical errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a level that occasionally lacks precision and stylistic control. Expanding your repertoire of precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling will help elevate your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Your essay incorporates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures like conditional and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('there are various issues arise'), article omissions, awkward prepositional patterns ('governs by the family', 'thinking the secrets to be leaked'), and pluralization errors. While these errors rarely impede overall communication and you can convey your core message, the frequency of grammatical slips means your control over complex structures remains inconsistent. Paying closer attention to verb tenses, voice, and sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
