Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many parts of the world, family members preffer working together in thier family business ratner than working for someone else. In this essay I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this sinario and conclude on one side.

To begin with positive side, I beleive that it would be good for the business itself as all the members would be giving their best to promote thier business. Secondly, trust and reliability will be maintain, there would be less chances of being exploit in business. While working together it would strengthen the relationship among the family and famil members. Moreover, the business itself is creating employment for thier own family members and helping themselves to make more money out of it. For example, In the USA most of the motel business are run by family and also operated by family members as their staff.

On the other hand, there are few disadvantage behind it. As the employes would be their own relatives it may creat problem in maganing the business. In some cases if a person makes a blunder then it will be difficult, to scold them or to pin point their mistake as he/she might be your brother or sister. Sometimes they might not be frighten to commit some mistakes as they won't have fear of lossing their job.

In conclusion, the advantages outweigh the disadvantage as I believe that everyone would be responsible for driving thier business on positive direction. All the member are equaly responsible of profit or loss so no single person will bare it and anyone want mind it as it is operated by their on family.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of family businesses and presents a clear position throughout. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as enhanced trust, stronger family relationships, and the unique management challenges that arise when relatives are employees. However, some ideas remain under-developed or briefly stated rather than fully extended. For instance, the point regarding employment creation is raised but not thoroughly explained. To reach the next level, the writer needs to fully develop all main ideas with more detailed explanations and deeper supporting examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing both sides, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different facets of the argument. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', though referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty, as seen in the phrase 'there are few disadvantage behind it'. Progression is generally clear, but smoother linking between sentences and more precise referencing would elevate the cohesion to the next level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating a sufficient range to communicate basic ideas about family enterprises. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'blunder', 'exploit', and 'reliability', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in spelling, word form, and word choice, including 'preffer', 'thier', 'ratner', 'sinario', 'maintain' instead of 'maintained', 'employes', 'creat', 'maganing', 'frighten' instead of 'afraid', 'lossing', 'bare' instead of 'bear', and 'want' instead of 'won't'. These numerous lexical and spelling errors reflect a limited range and can cause some difficulty for the reader, keeping the lexical score at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a basic ability to construct compound and complex sentences. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage, such as 'most of the motel business are run', 'mistakes as they won't have fear of', 'All the member are equaly responsible', and comma splices or missing commas. While communication is generally maintained despite these errors, the frequent lapses in grammatical control and sentence construction restrict the score to this band. Achieving a higher band would require a wider variety of complex structures with significantly fewer errors.
