Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary world, generational business is burgeoning majorly. Family members work together and run the whole industry. The merits of this trend definitely outweigh the demerits. Reasons behind my opinion are elaborated in further paragraphs.

Family business is a great way to strengthen inheritant ties. First and foremost, the major benefit is that an individual does not need any degree or certificate to own a position in a company. This helpes vastly in acquiring a job in this competitive world. For instance, father is owning a company and son has inherited all the skills that is needed to run the business smoothly, a psotion will be offered directly to son despite not having any degree in the field. Moreover, work can be conducted in fruitful manner. In absence of any employee, work is not being hault, rather it is conducted by another member of the family who has expertise in it. This is beneficial in carrying out important and timely projects.

In addition, another major benefit is that the head of the industry is not deemed to give a salary to the family members working for the company. Instead, work is carried out in a best way possible while keeping the budget at the lowest. This also increases a trust and sense of belongingness within the generations running the business.

However, the demerits of this cannot be overlooked. Family business sometimes phase difficulties when a particular member of the same blood line does not have an open mind. For example, the one who is very competitve by nature can feel envy for other memebrs of family who possess more skills; plays crucial role in carrying out the work and runs the company efficiently. This can eventually be detrimental towards the success of the company. Furthermore, if an individual is provided a higher postion and is not skillful enough to own, can result in financial loss as well as deteriorate company's reputation.

In conclusion, business carried out from one generation to another is valuable and beneficial in leading the company towards greater success; however, this can be deleterious in few aspects, but this can overcome by manintaing certain decoram while running a business.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you believe the advantages of family businesses outweigh the disadvantages, and the conclusion maintains this view. You address both sides with relevant points, including inherited experience, continuity when a worker is absent, lower staffing costs, family rivalry, and the risk of appointing an unqualified relative. The examples help explain your reasoning, particularly the father-and-son scenario. Some ideas, however, are less fully developed than others: the claim that relatives need not be paid a salary is broad and would benefit from qualification or a realistic example, while the disadvantages could be weighed more explicitly against the benefits. A more precise explanation of when family ties help or hinder performance would strengthen the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, paragraphs presenting advantages, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. The progression from benefits to drawbacks is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “In conclusion” make the direction clear. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. At times, though, linking is somewhat mechanical, with repeated sequencing phrases such as “First and foremost” and “In addition.” Some references are also unclear: “This” in the sentence about trust could refer to the low budget, the work, or the family arrangement. The final sentence contains several ideas joined together, making the conclusion less controlled. Use more precise referencing and connect each point through its meaning rather than relying mainly on signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “inherit,” “expertise,” “financial loss,” and “reputation,” and the reader can generally understand your points. There are also some less natural or inaccurate choices that limit precision: “generational business” is not the usual expression for a business passed through a family, “inheritant ties” is unclear, and “a position will be offered directly” does not quite express the intended idea. Spelling errors such as “psotion,” “hault,” “competitve,” and “manintaing” are noticeable. Some phrases also sound overly formal or awkward, including “deemed to give a salary” and “deleterious in few aspects.” Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; this will make your vocabulary more effective and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including conditional structures and clauses beginning with “while” and “if.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships between ideas less clear. For example, “This helpes vastly” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “the one who is very competitive … can feel envy …; plays crucial role” has an incomplete and poorly connected clause. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in phrases such as “in a fruitful manner” and “can overcome by maintaining.” The final sentence combines several clauses without a clear grammatical structure. Practise checking agreement, articles, complete clauses, and passive forms, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
