Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is a well prominent fact that family members contribute together in their family business in many nations. In my personal opinion, the benefits of working together in the same business overweigh the drawbacks. We will discuss it further in this essay.

One of the most crucial advantages of a family business is that every member brings in a different skillset as per their occupation. When everyone is contributing their talent witht the same goal of expanding the business and bringing in profit, the success rate of the business rises rapidly. For an instance, Reliance industries, owned by Ambani family, is a family business spread across three generations. Every generation contributed differently as per the ongoing trends during their period; which is one of the main reasons that business is a great success and serves every sector.

Secondly, Family busines has the benefit of trust. Family members share interpersonal bond and share love and affection towards each other due to which they want to see everyone in a good standing. It eliminates the fraud risks that a partner who is not related by blood might be bring in. For example, a person working in a firm can share the cucial reports to a competitor but when a family member would be handling these matters, the chances of the leakage are none.

But like the two sides of coin, It also have one big disadvantage which is having different interests. If the business requires an important decision making and two members have different opinions and neither of them wants to cooperate; then this can not only put the business into jeaopardy but also the bond and love they share.

To conlcude, Family members working in the same profession can be beneficial as it brings in different skillset and a sense of trust but can also be disadvantageous if opinions contrast. Nevertheless, the benefits outweighs the limitations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. You address both sides and support the benefits with relevant examples, including the different contributions of generations in Reliance Industries and the trust between relatives. The disadvantage of conflicting interests is also relevant, and you explain how it could harm both the business and family relationships. This is a well-focused response with ideas extended and supported. To strengthen it further, develop the examples with more precise explanation: for instance, clarify how the generations’ different skills helped the company adapt, and acknowledge that family ties do not automatically prevent dishonesty. This would make the reasoning more fully convincing and avoid broad generalisations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, separate paragraphs present two advantages and one disadvantage, and the conclusion restates your position. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Secondly” and “To conclude” help readers navigate the argument. However, some linking is mechanical, and a few references are not fully clear. For example, “We will discuss it further in this essay” adds little, while “It eliminates the fraud risks” could refer more precisely to trust or to family businesses. The long sentence beginning “When everyone is contributing…” also carries several ideas at once. Use transitions more selectively and make links between claims and examples explicit to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including terms such as “skillset,” “interpersonal bond,” “fraud risks,” and “decision making.” These help express the main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. You also attempt more formal phrasing, but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “well prominent fact,” “overweigh the drawbacks,” and “in a good standing” do not fit their intended meanings. Spelling and word-form slips such as “busines,” “cucial,” and “conlcude” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, say “a well-known fact,” “outweigh the drawbacks,” and “in a good position.” This would make your vocabulary more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional reasoning in “If the business requires an important decision…” and a relative clause in “which is one of the main reasons…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “It also have one big disadvantage” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the chances of the leakage are none” has an awkward construction. In “a partner … might be bring in,” the modal is followed by an incorrect verb form. Punctuation and sentence boundaries also need attention, particularly the run-on structure around “different opinions and neither of them wants to cooperate.” Review agreement, modal verb patterns, articles, and punctuation, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
