Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, there are a lot of business growing among families and no doubt in many countries it is common for family members to work together in a family oriented business. While this type of business can create certain challenges but I believe that the advantages are greater than the disadvantages.
One main advantage of a family business is the high level of trust amomg employees. Since family members already know each other well, they are often more willing to cooperate and support one another. This can create a positive working environment and reduce the risk of conflicts caused by a lack of trust. Another benefit is that family members may be highly indulge in working for longer hours to bring the sucess of the business and creating long term goals by maintaining this. Since they have one common goal which is growth and lasting of their business. For example: A family- owned restaurant may be operated by parents and their children, who are willing to work for extra hours to maintain the quality of service and protect the family's reputation.
However, family businesses can also have disadvantages. One main problem is that personal relationship may interfere with professional decisions. For instance, A family member might be given the managerial position because of their relationship with the owner rather than their qualifications. This could lead to anger among other employees and may effect the company performance. In addition, disagreements at work can often create tension within the family.
In my opinion, although family business can cause conflicts between personal and professional relationships, their benefits generally outweigh these drawbacks. Strong trust, loyalty can contribute to long term business sucess .
Overall, family business can run sucessful when family members maintain clear professional boundaries and treat the business as a shared responsibilty.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction—family businesses have more advantages—and it is maintained in the conclusion. You address both sides with relevant points: trust and cooperation are benefits, while favouritism and family tension are drawbacks. The restaurant example also helps illustrate why relatives may work extra hours to protect the business’s reputation. These ideas are extended with explanations, which supports a strong response to the task. To make the discussion more fully developed, explain the long-term business benefits more precisely; the point about “creating long term goals” is mentioned but not clearly connected to business success. You could also develop how professional boundaries help resolve the disadvantages identified.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposting such as “One main advantage,” “However,” and “In addition” helps readers follow the argument. The example is placed appropriately within the advantages paragraph. Some connections are less smooth, however. The sentence beginning “Another benefit” moves through several related points—longer hours, long-term goals, and a common goal—without clearly showing how each follows from the previous one. The conclusion also repeats the main position rather than drawing the discussion together. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and ensure each paragraph develops one main line of reasoning.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “professional decisions,” “qualifications,” “managerial position,” and “family’s reputation.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and there is some attempt to use less common expressions. However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision: “amomg,” “sucess,” “highly indulge,” and “business performance” are examples. Some phrases are also unnatural or vague, such as “growth and lasting of their business” and “family oriented business.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they limit the accuracy and flexibility of your vocabulary. Check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, especially when describing business growth, commitment, and outcomes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example (“A family member might be given the managerial position…”) and a subordinate clause beginning “Since family members already know each other well.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “While this type of business can create certain challenges but…” combines two contrasting structures; use either “Although …, …” or “While …, …”. The fragment “Since they have one common goal…” should be joined to the preceding sentence. There are also issues with articles and agreement in “personal relationship may interfere” and “family business can cause.” Improve sentence boundaries and check singular/plural forms and punctuation around examples. Greater control of these patterns would make the argument smoother.
