Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many regions, family members work in their family businesses. I believe this trend has more advantages than its disadvantages. Its merits include flexible working hours, shared profit and better communication while its major drawback is a lack of professionalism.
To begin with, family businesses can give employees freedom to work flexible hours. In emergency situations or during busy periods family members can easily support each other while considering their requirements. Moreover, working in a family businesses can allow individuals to earn shared profits. People working in family business can reduce their labor costs and family members can work more effectively. As a result, they can increase their profit by cutting some necessary expenses. A recent study showed that the overall profit of family businesses in increased 5% when family members work together.
Furthermore, working in family business provide people a chance to communicate better at workplace. Family members can communicate easily and openly to one another which can help them to make better decisions. Hence, they will come up with an ideas which will improve their success rates. However, family businesses can have a lack of professionalism. Due to the fact that all the family member a quite open with each other, they may do not follow their boundaries for their work. It might reduce their professionalism. A recent survey conducted by Oxford University showed that more that 25% of family business lack professionalism.
To conclude, although having a family business have lots of pros, its cons can not be neglected. Therefore, people should be aware while working in their family business as its success totally depend on them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you believe family businesses have more advantages, and you identify flexibility, shared profits and communication as benefits, with limited professionalism as a drawback. You address both sides and give relevant explanations, such as family members supporting one another during busy periods. The discussion of communication is also connected to decision-making. However, some points are asserted rather than fully developed: the profit claim and the Oxford University statistic are not explained or linked to a concrete example, and the conclusion introduces little beyond a general warning. To strengthen the response, develop each main idea with a specific, credible illustration and explain more precisely why the advantages outweigh the disadvantage.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, paragraphs covering advantages and a disadvantage, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument, and the main points are generally grouped appropriately. This gives the essay a coherent progression. Some connections, however, feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Moreover,” “As a result,” and “Hence.” In places, the relationship between claims is not fully clear—for example, the link between reducing labour costs and family members working more effectively. The reference to “they” in the decision-making discussion could also be more precise. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make the links between each claim and its explanation explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “flexible working hours,” “shared profits,” “labour costs,” “boundaries,” and “professionalism.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt more formal phrasing such as “In emergency situations” and “A recent study showed.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, though: “work in a family businesses,” “increase their profit,” and “success rates” do not sound fully natural in context. “A lack of professionalism” is relevant, but the explanation could use more precise language about blurred roles or favouritism. Aim to vary repeated terms such as “family business” and check whether verbs and nouns combine naturally; this would make your vocabulary more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including conditional and subordinate structures such as “while considering their requirements” and “Due to the fact that…”. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make a sentence awkward. Examples include “working in a family businesses,” “working in family business provide,” and “all the family member a quite open,” which involve number or subject–verb agreement problems. The construction “they may do not follow” also needs a different verb pattern, such as “they may not follow.” There are errors in the conclusion too, including “having a family business have” and “success totally depend.” Review agreement, articles, plurals and modal-verb patterns, while continuing to use complex sentences with careful proofreading.
