Student answer (Band 6.5)

In many parts of the world, family-oriented- businesses plays an significant role in the economy. Family Members or relatives come together and handles the daily operations shares equal goals and make the business successful. However, there are some inter-family politics and conflicts which is a demerit of Family Businesses, perhaps, I firmly believe that the advantages are more than the disadvantages.

One of the primary point of commencing a business together is the trust and the values which all the members can bring it on table all-together. Unlike conventional workplaces where employees shows uo to the work just for their personal interests, but in the family owned business everyone is willing to sacrifice, work extremly beyond scheduled hours but with keen interest, this kind of conviction is substantial for any business. For instance if a family is running a restaurant then all the members will be assisting each other, they will not do their only assisgned duites but step in for other members too. In addition to it financial risk taking ability also scales up when you know you are surrounded by your loved ones .Such cooperation can strengthen the business and help it survive economic uncertainty

Another point from my perspective is the preservance of the business as it goes to the new generation and with the business goes the values and the experiences. These factors play a vital role in Family Business and becames more beneficial, as it strengthen the core of the business.

Neverthless, I would also like to state some drawbacks too. There can be unequal division of assets among the members, which can be vicious to disloyalty and dishonesty as well. Poltics and disagrements can be another reasons, If any member is not fully commited to the business and it's scope then it can be disasterous for the whole family and their business. However, I still believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages . Mutual trust, shared commitment and the transfer of knowledge across generations can contribute significantly to long-term success, provided that family members maintain professionalism and treat the business as a shared responsibility.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction—“the advantages are more than the disadvantages”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both sides, explaining how trust, shared effort and intergenerational continuity can benefit a business, while also identifying disputes over assets and commitment as risks. The restaurant example helps illustrate cooperation, and the final qualification about professionalism adds useful nuance. This is a relevant, supported response, though some points are asserted more than fully explained: for example, the paragraph on passing a business to the next generation says this strengthens its core but does not show how that works in practice. Develop that point with a specific example or consequence, and explain more clearly how the drawbacks can be managed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: introduction and position, two paragraphs on advantages, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a concluding judgement. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “In addition,” and “However” help readers follow the argument, and the conclusion effectively returns to the central comparison. To make the organisation more polished, give each paragraph a more distinct focus and use transitions that show the relationship between ideas rather than simply adding them. The second advantage paragraph is brief and would benefit from fuller development. Some connections are also awkward or unclear, particularly “However” in the introduction, where the contrast between the benefits and drawbacks could be expressed more directly. Check punctuation around transitions and sentence boundaries to keep the progression smooth.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “daily operations,” “financial risk,” “economic uncertainty,” “shared commitment,” and “long-term success.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt less common expressions such as “inter-family politics” and “preservance.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “vicious to disloyalty,” “scales up,” and “the values which all the members can bring it on table” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling and word-form slips, including “Neverthless,” “disagrements,” and “commited,” also occur. Build accuracy by checking collocations and spelling, and prefer familiar, precise phrasing when unsure of an ambitious expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional phrasing (“If any member is not fully committed…”) and a relative clause (“which can be vicious…”). The main argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “businesses plays,” “members…handles,” and “employees shows”; articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “a significant role” and “Unlike conventional workplaces… but…”. Several sentences run together or lack clear punctuation, such as the sentence beginning “In addition to it financial risk taking ability…”. To improve control, check agreement and articles during editing, and divide long sentences into complete clauses with clear punctuation. Aim to retain complex structures while making each clause grammatically complete.
