Student answer (Band 6.5)
Over the past decade, running a family business is a long-standing tradition. By involving family members in the company, helps co-operating and managing the task more efficiently. From my perspective, family business benefit by creating streamlined communication and trust outweighing the drawbacks, even though they sometimes create personal conflicts.
On the one hand , the major reason why family business become more well-known nowadays, as it creates strong bonding and flawless communication between the members as compared to outsiders. Furthermore, relatives shares a deep bond, which reduces the risk of dishonesty and corruption. Family members understand each others well making decisions faster. However, profits and rewards, stay within the household, elevates the family's overall financial security. A prominent real world example is Reliance Industries, a massive multinational company in India founded by Dhirubhai Ambani. After he passed, the next generation- his sons Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani ran the empire together, showcasing how family legacy can scale a business locally. However managerial disagreements later led to a formal division of a business.
On the other hand, sometimes family business can also create internal conflict among the members. Personal disagreement or siblings rivalries can interfere with business choices and create a tensed environment. Moreover, companies mostly promote relative based on bloodline rather than skilled and talented individuals which reduces workplace efficiency. For instance, some organization face financial challenges while managing profit and loans. These issues can be overcome with mutual understanding and empathy among family members.
In conclusion, although family business can enhance trust and financial status for the family, it is unavoidable that they will inevitably create arguments between members. To maintain harmony, while working together, communication and empathy will be key to achieve best outcome.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you believe the benefits of trust and financial security outweigh the drawbacks, while acknowledging conflict. You address both sides and use a relevant example in the discussion of Reliance Industries. However, some points are more fully explained than others. The benefits of trust and quicker decisions are linked to business operations, but the claim that profits staying within the household improves security could be explained more precisely. The disadvantages of favouring relatives over skilled employees are relevant, yet the example about organisations facing financial challenges is vague and does not clearly demonstrate that problem. To strengthen the response, develop each main point with a specific explanation or example and make the comparison between advantages and disadvantages more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion that restates your view. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “On the one hand,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. There are, however, some awkward or mechanical transitions. “However” appears within the advantages paragraph even though the following point adds another benefit, and the shift from the Reliance example to managerial disagreements could be signposted more clearly. Some references, such as “these issues,” are broad and do not identify exactly which problems they refer to. Use connectors according to the relationship between ideas and make references more precise to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “financial security,” “dishonesty,” “managerial disagreements,” and “workplace efficiency.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. At times, however, word choice or collocation is inaccurate or unnatural: “strong bonding,” “flawless communication,” “tensed environment,” and “formal division of a business” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also spelling and word-form slips, such as “each others” and “siblings rivalries.” Aim for precise, conventional collocations rather than intensifying claims with words such as “flawless.” This would make your vocabulary more fluent and accurate while preserving the range you already demonstrate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “although,” “which,” and “while,” and your meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement, sentence construction, articles, and punctuation. For example, “By involving family members in the company, helps…” lacks a clear subject, while “relatives shares” should have a plural verb. In “family business benefit,” the singular/plural form is also inconsistent. The opening sentence, “Over the past decade, running a family business is a long-standing tradition,” has an awkward tense and structure. Review agreement and ensure introductory phrases connect to a complete main clause. More consistent control of these patterns would make your varied sentences clearer.
