Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent times, family businesses are considered to be the crucial factor for gaining financial success. However, in various countries blood relatives and siblings are contributing to their family business because of easy communication and trust. I strongly agree with this statement because it has more pros than cons which are necessary for expanding a business.

Firstly, trust is the most essential element in a human being which is required in every business. For example, Ambani family , one of the most richest family in India, only consider their own children for Director and CEO posts which shows how important faith is. However, family ventures are mainly run by its own members because they are easy to trust. As a result, it creates a sense of security. Secondly, Due to relations, individuals feel comfortable to share their creative ideas and theories which makes communcation easy. so, it increases employee's morale and confidence as well.

Thirdly, they support by maintaining quantity and quality in every product. Employees are informed about their lackings and workshops are organized to train them. They also include good packages and incentives to retain them. Not just like a job but the idea to build something together. Consequently, raises productivity and outcome. On the other hand, the disadvantage is not frequent but can happen sometimes such as, fight due to any disagreement which can lead to disturb the workflow. Operations are compromised and it ultimately effects the revenue.

In conclusion, privately own business are mainly controlled by certain family members and advantages like great conviction on them and awareness of their behaviour allow employers to take risks with them which has a positive effect . Although, a little misunderstanding can occur, people still prefer family firms more.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that family businesses have more advantages, and you address both benefits and a drawback. Trust, easier communication, staff development and productivity are relevant points; the Ambani example also helps make the discussion more specific. This meets the task well, but the support is uneven. Trust and communication are explained, while the point about quality, workshops and incentives is less clearly connected to why family ownership creates an advantage. The disadvantage of disagreements is acknowledged but only briefly developed. To strengthen the response further, explain the cause-and-effect links more fully and make the comparison between the overall benefits and the drawback more explicit in the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph developing advantages, a contrastive disadvantage and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Thirdly” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the main points. However, the progression can feel mechanical, and some links between sentences are unclear. For example, “They also include good packages and incentives” follows a point about training without explaining who “they” refers to or how this supports the argument. The fragment “Not just like a job but the idea to build something together” interrupts the flow. Use clearer referencing and connect each example directly to the paragraph’s main idea; vary transitions rather than relying mainly on numbered signposts.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “financial success,” “creative ideas,” “employee morale,” “productivity” and “revenue.” These choices communicate the general argument, but several word combinations or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision. Examples include “the most richest family,” “their lackings,” “great conviction on them” and “privately own business.” There are also spelling and form errors such as “communcation” and “effects” where the intended verb is “affects.” Aim to learn vocabulary in natural collocations and check word forms and spelling. More precise phrasing would make the discussion sound clearer and more controlled without needing unnecessarily complex words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex structures, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which” and “although,” and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, some sentence structures and punctuation are inaccurate. For instance, “Consequently, raises productivity and outcome” lacks a clear subject, while “which can lead to disturb the workflow” uses an incorrect infinitive pattern. In “family businesses are considered to be the crucial factor,” the plural subject does not agree naturally with the singular complement. There are also run-on or poorly punctuated joins, such as “outcome. On the other hand,” and missing spaces after full stops. Review sentence boundaries, subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, then proofread punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
