Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is becoming quite common for familiy members to pursue their careers in their family businesses, in certain parts of world. Although this phenomenon has some disadvantages, I beleive that its advantages are for more.

There are potential merits of working in a family firm. The most significant one is the autonomy of decisions. If people choose to run their family organization, they can independitaly make their decisions related to investements, profits, employees, and marketing stratigies. For example, people can choose their manpower according to the demand of products in market, and they can make the changes into their products if their firm faces losses. Thus, by working in a family business, individuals can gain a profound sense of independence.

Furthermore, felxible work hours can also consider one of the most noticeble mertis of a family enterprise. People usually have a freedom to work in their prefered hours in their mother-and-father run business. To illustrate, those individuals who do not want to wrok early morning, they can start their job later. Additionally, they can take a leave from their job whenever they want. It could also assist to improve their relations with their family, as they can spend quality time with each other. Flexibel job hours can also assit people to pursue their hobbies, interests and other recreational activities.

One of the primary argument in against of running a family firm is its affect on family relations. The primary rationale is that some people can become indolent, while others have to take all responsiblities. If something adverse happens in business like company have to face losses, individuals can blame each other for such conditions. Consequently, conflicts can be noticed easily in family business.

To conclude, while family firms can be responsible for driving familiy members away from each other, in my opnion individuals can get enormous benefits if they choose to run th

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you believe the advantages of family businesses outweigh the disadvantages, and you discuss both sides. The points about decision-making autonomy and flexible hours are relevant, with examples such as adjusting staffing to demand and starting work later. You also identify a plausible drawback—conflict when responsibilities are uneven or the business loses money. However, some ideas are more fully explained than others: the autonomy point is linked to business decisions, while the claim that flexible hours improve family relationships and allow hobbies is asserted rather than supported. The conclusion begins to restate your view but is cut off, so it does not fully summarise your reasoning. Develop the less-supported points and finish the conclusion clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a concluding paragraph. The progression from autonomy to flexible hours and then to family conflict is easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “To illustrate,” and “Consequently” help signal relationships between ideas, and the examples generally appear in the relevant paragraphs. This already gives the essay a coherent arrangement. To make the flow more natural and precise, avoid relying on formulaic transitions and clarify links between claims—for example, explain how flexible hours specifically lead to stronger family relationships. The final sentence is incomplete, which disrupts the ending; complete it so the conclusion provides a clear, finished summary.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “autonomy,” “family enterprise,” “manpower,” “recreational activities,” and “responsibilities.” These choices show an effort to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choice are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: examples include “familiy,” “beleive,” “independitaly,” “investements,” and “stratigies.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “the most significant one is the autonomy of decisions” and “a freedom to work in their prefered hours.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. Using a smaller number of well-controlled expressions would make your meaning clearer and help you express the business-related ideas more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If people choose to run their family organization, they can…” and a concession in the introduction. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “flexible work hours can also consider” needs a passive or different verb structure, and “those individuals who do not want to work early morning, they can start” has an unnecessary repeated subject. There are also issues with articles and agreement, as in “company have to face losses,” and the final sentence is incomplete. Work on constructing complete clauses, checking subject–verb agreement, and using articles and prepositions accurately. These corrections would make your varied sentence patterns more controlled.
