Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is widely acknowledged that in many nations, family members choose to work in their own family business which already exists rather than trying something new.I think this has advantages as well as disadvantages at the same time. However, i still believe that working together as a family unit has always been more advantageous.

Well,in countries like India and many more it can be seen that most people tend to dropout from universities and schools to join their own business which has been in operation from years. The biggest merit is that there is no need to start everything from scratch sin\ce the base has already been setup for further scaling. Also,as a new entry into the business there are certain things which are very brand-new and out of knowledge, therefore, having someone from your family will help you gain information on that without getting perplexed in different things. This will be supportive because you can easily rely on them for subjects which are completely out of your expertise.Lastly, working with your family or for a family may make it easier to know who to trust. Being around people who care about you may give you more self-confidence.

On the other side,it has various cons at the same time.Firstly, it is believed that work arguments follows you home to family dinners and can cause sibling rivalries. Secondly,it becomes difficult to fire a relative without causing permanent damage to family harmony.Thirdly, hiring or promoting based on bloodlines instead of actual skills can cause the company with underqualified leadership.

In the conclusion, it is believed that it depends on the carrer priorities. But it is evident that it offers an unique blend of personal loyalty and deep-rooted stability.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you acknowledge drawbacks but conclude that family businesses are more advantageous. You address both sides with relevant points, including an established business base, family members sharing knowledge, trust, conflict at home, and promotion based on family ties. This covers the task well. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that people leave school to join family businesses is not connected clearly to why this is an advantage, and the point about self-confidence could use a specific illustration. Your conclusion also says the outcome depends on career priorities, which slightly weakens the otherwise clear judgement that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Develop and support the key points more evenly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to advantages, disadvantages, and a conclusion. The sequence within the body paragraphs is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Lastly” help readers track the points. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. At times, however, linking feels mechanical, particularly in the list of disadvantages, and transitions such as “On the other side” are not fully natural. Some connections between sentences are also unclear: the discussion of leaving education does not lead smoothly into the benefits of an existing business. Use a wider range of linking methods and make the relationship between each example and its main point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “scaling,” “expertise,” “family harmony,” “underqualified leadership,” and “bloodlines.” These choices help express several distinct advantages and disadvantages. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, but some combinations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “a new entry into the business,” “out of knowledge,” and “an unique blend.” Spelling and word-form slips, including “carrer” and “dropout” where a verb is intended, also reduce precision. Meaning remains understandable, but more consistent control of collocation and formal phrasing would strengthen the essay. Prefer familiar, accurate expressions over unusual wording when unsure.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a business which has been in operation” and a conditional structure in “without causing permanent damage.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “work arguments follows” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “there is no need to start everything from scratch since the base has already been setup” contains an incorrect participle form. There are also article and punctuation issues, such as “an unique blend” and inconsistent spacing after commas and full stops. These errors do not usually prevent communication, but careful editing for agreement, articles, and sentence punctuation would improve accuracy.
