Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, joining family business has become increasingly prevalent in many parts of the world. Although this trend may present certain challenges,I firmly believe that its advantages outweigh its disadvantages, particularly in terms of providing experience with no high demands and building of strong family bonds.
One of the most notable advantages of working in a family business is that it provides a learning experience with real world problems without any need of interview or job qualifications. This is particularly beneficial because one doesn't need to have high academic performance or grades to prove oneself for securing a job. Another important benefit is easy adaptation. As it is a family business, you are much more comfortable to be under their guidance and gain experiences. For example, children of middle class families are seen joining and supporting their parents business, while they are in their teenage. This action not only helps children to grow their skills but also it helps to strengthen the family bond.
Despite these benefits, there are several drawbacks that should not be overlooked. The primary concern is that limited exposure. This occurs because people start their career at a young age working together with the family members. Later, they become responsible and comfortable in the same business, which doesn't let them to explore other opportunities. As a result, it limits growth of an individual with no access to other opportunities.
In conclusion, working together with family members brings both opportunities and challenges. Despite the potential drawbacks associated with working in family business, I believe that its overall benefits are more substantial. This is mainly because of strengthening family ties, making it a largely positive trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and the conclusion maintains this view. You address both sides by discussing accessible work experience and stronger family bonds, then noting that staying in the family business may restrict other career options. These are relevant reasons, but some are less fully developed than others. For instance, the point about gaining experience without interviews or qualifications is asserted rather than explained, and the example of teenagers helping their parents is general rather than showing a specific outcome. The disadvantage is also introduced but could be supported with a concrete example. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation of its effects to make the argument more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from learning opportunities to family relationships, followed by the limitation on career choice, is easy to follow. You also use signposting such as “Another important benefit,” “Despite these benefits,” and “As a result” to show relationships between ideas. To make the organisation more effective, ensure that each paragraph develops a distinct point rather than moving quickly between claims. For example, the first body paragraph could explain the learning benefit before introducing adaptation and family bonds. Some links are slightly mechanical, so use referencing and transitions that connect ideas more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for the topic, including “real world problems,” “academic performance,” “exposure,” and “opportunities.” Phrases such as “strengthen the family bond” and “overall benefits are more substantial” help communicate your argument clearly. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “joining family business,” “easy adaptation,” and “limited exposure” do not sound fully natural in context. There is also some repetition of “business,” “family,” and “opportunities.” Aim to learn common collocations and use more precise alternatives, such as describing how employees “gain practical experience” or may have “limited career mobility.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concessive opening (“Although this trend may present certain challenges”) and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “As a result.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “one doesn't need to have high academic performance or grades to prove oneself for securing a job” has an awkward infinitive pattern, while “which doesn't let them to explore” uses an incorrect verb pattern. There are also article and plural issues in “working in family business” and “parents business,” and the comma after “challenges” needs a space. Review articles, possessives, and verb patterns such as “allow someone to do” to improve accuracy while retaining your sentence variety.
