Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, working as business partners with your family has become increasingly common in some countries. Although this can offer several benefits, such as trust and shared responsibilities, It may also leads to disagreements and conflicts.

One major advantage of a family business is that family members usually trust each other because they have known each other for years and understand one another's weaknesses and strengths. As a result, they can share responsibilities and tasks which can increase the chance of success in the business. On top of that, family businesses can provide financial stability. This is because immediate family can share profits. They can support each other financially in difficult times. Therefore, it reduces the chance of finances worries and promotes economic security.

On the other hand, a major disadvantage is dispute at work can damage the relationship between the family members. For example, disagreement in tasks and if the relatives have different opinions how to manage the profits. Consequently, these conflicts can create stress and affect their relationships outside workplace. In addition, It increases the chance of dominance on each other For instance, the person who is more educated and a good decision maker, may have a strong desire to make decisions for other people and This can lead to less involvement and frustration between relatives.

In conclusion, working with family members can provide financial stability, mutual understanding and support. However, It also lead to disagreement and desire of power.and can create stressful situations. Therefore, family members should maintain a professional attitude with each other and respect each other's opinion and decisions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the question and give a clear overall view: family businesses offer trust, shared responsibilities and financial support, but can also cause disputes and stress. These are relevant reasons, and the examples about disagreements over tasks and profit management help illustrate the disadvantages. However, the response does not fully establish whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages; the conclusion lists both sides but does not make that comparison explicit. Some points are also asserted rather than developed. For instance, the claim that sharing profits reduces financial worries would be stronger with an explanation of when or how this support works. State your judgement directly and extend each main reason with a specific consequence or example to make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “As a result,” “On the other hand,” and “Consequently” help show relationships between ideas, and the reader can follow the main progression. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, some links are mechanical, and the example beginning “For example, disagreement in tasks…” is not integrated into a complete sentence, interrupting the flow. The final paragraph also repeats earlier points without clearly resolving the comparison in the question. Use complete example sentences and connect each supporting detail explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financial stability,” “economic security,” “dominance,” and “frustration.” These choices allow you to discuss both practical benefits and interpersonal problems, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “share responsibilities and tasks.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however: “finances worries,” “dominance on each other,” and “a good decision maker” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Repetition of “family members,” “disagreement,” and “conflicts” also limits flexibility. Build precision by learning common word partnerships and choosing terms that describe the relationship or business issue exactly, rather than relying on broad or unnatural phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “because they have known each other for years” and a result clause introduced by “which.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas are usually understandable. However, several errors in verb forms, sentence construction and punctuation reduce accuracy. For example, “It may also leads” should use the base verb after “may,” while “However, It also lead” has an incorrect verb form. The example beginning “For example, disagreement in tasks…” is a fragment, and the final disadvantage sentence contains an unfinished construction before “This can lead.” Improve control by checking subject–verb agreement and modal verb patterns, and ensure every example has a complete main clause. Also review sentence boundaries and capitalisation after full stops.
