Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear overall opinion that family businesses are beneficial, and you mention relevant advantages such as trust, sharing ideas, quick decisions and mutual support. The example of your family friend’s company also connects to the topic. However, the discussion is very brief and the ideas are not sufficiently explained: for instance, you say the workers are happy and the company is stable without showing why working with relatives produces these outcomes. The disadvantage about a business being divided among family members is relevant, but its cause and consequences remain unclear. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, which limits how fully you can develop both sides. Add specific explanations and examples, then state more clearly why the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: you introduce the topic, discuss advantages and disadvantages, and finish by restating your opinion. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression between ideas is difficult to follow, and several points are repeated, especially that family businesses are “the best” and that decisions are easy. Connections such as “Because” and “At the end” are sometimes used without making the relationship between ideas clear. The paragraphing also does not consistently separate the main points, and some sentences appear as fragments or abrupt statements. Use one paragraph for each main idea, begin with a clear topic sentence, and connect each explanation to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “trust,” “decisions,” “support,” “profit,” and “disadvantage,” so the general subject is identifiable. However, the vocabulary range is basic and highly repetitive, with “company,” “family,” and “business” appearing frequently. Several inaccurate word choices or combinations make the meaning hard to understand, such as “the company growth up,” “make stock price deicide,” and “the company is the dead.” Aim for more precise expressions and check that words fit together naturally. For example, you could describe a business as “grow,” “remain stable,” or “suffer losses,” depending on the intended meaning. A wider range of accurate terms would help you explain the advantages and risks more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, with limited evidence of varied sentence structures. Frequent errors in sentence formation, verb forms, agreement, articles and punctuation sometimes obscure the intended meaning. For example, “family member work together” needs a plural subject and verb, while “The company growth up” does not use a correct verb form. In “all the workers very happy,” the sentence is missing a verb, and several ideas run together without clear punctuation. There are attempts to link clauses with “because,” but these are not consistently formed as complete sentences. Practise building accurate subject–verb sentences first, then combine related ideas using conjunctions and check articles, plurals and full stops.
