In many countries, family members work together in their family business.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often noticed that in most countries, people prefer working together in their family business apart from doing any kind of corporate jobs. According to me, working with families have more advantages as people get more emotional and financial support.

Firstly, working with your family members creates a good bonding between every individual and there is always a sense of belongingness. People get good time to spend with each other even while working and there is always less conflicts as compared to any job. Moreover, if we is unwell or tired and are not willing to work, the tasks can be assigned to any other individual without doing any formalities. Apart from this, if a family member plans to go for a trip irrespective of time duration, the work can be divided between others without any confusion.

For instance, last year my elder brother hired an accountant any paid him a good salary as he was very loyal and hardworking. After almost 6 months, he made excuses and strated taking day offs without informing my brother. This created a nuisance and was very hard for my brother to manage everything alone. On the other hand, my sister works as an analyst in the same business from last 6 years and our business never faced any problem in terms of data entry or analysis. It is just because we are aware before hand when she is available and the pending tasks are managed accordingly.

To conclude, I would suggest that family businesses have more advantage when everyone from the family have their own responsibility in the business. This not only makes the business efficient but also creates a sense of attachment between each family member.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you believe family businesses offer more advantages, particularly through emotional support and flexibility. You address the question and support your view with relevant examples, especially the contrast between your brother’s hired accountant and your sister’s long-term role. This gives the response a personal, task-focused basis. However, the discussion mainly explains benefits and does not consider any disadvantages, so the comparison implied by the question is not fully explored. Some claims, such as there being “less conflicts,” are asserted rather than explained, and the example focuses more on reliability than on emotional or financial support. Develop the reasoning behind each advantage and briefly acknowledge a possible drawback to make the response more balanced and complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs present reasons and an example, and the conclusion restates your position. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” “Apart from this,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the progression. The example also creates a useful contrast between an employee and a family member. At times, however, the links between ideas are mechanical, and several points in the first body paragraph are listed without showing how they connect to the central claim. The shift from general benefits to the accountant anecdote could be signposted more explicitly. Use fewer formulaic transitions and add clearer explanation or referencing to show how each example supports your argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “financial support,” “sense of belongingness,” “assigned,” and “responsibility.” There are also attempts at more specific language in the business example, such as “analyst” and “data entry.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, including “good bonding,” “get good time,” “less conflicts,” and “created a nuisance.” Spelling errors such as “strated” and the phrase “before hand” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your position, but they limit the precision and naturalness of the vocabulary. Build a stronger range of collocations for discussing workplace relationships, reliability, and business operations, and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional phrasing (“if a family member plans to go for a trip”) and a contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “working with families have” should use a singular verb, “if we is unwell” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “everyone from the family have” also needs agreement correction. The sentence beginning “last year my elder brother hired…” contains a faulty construction around “hired an accountant any paid him.” Review agreement and check that clauses are joined correctly. Greater control of these patterns, alongside varied sentence structures, would make the writing more accurate.
