Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You present a relevant response and give reasons on both sides: inherited knowledge and reduced staffing costs are advantages, while disagreements between relatives can cause family separation. Your conclusion also makes your overall view clear by describing the business as beneficial despite its risks. However, the opening says there are “equal chances” of advantages and disadvantages, which does not clearly answer whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages; this also sits uneasily with the more positive conclusion. The supporting ideas are relevant but brief. For example, explain how family members’ experience improves business decisions, or give a specific example of conflict affecting the business. A consistent position and fuller development of these points would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting advantages, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “First and foremost,” “Secondly,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the shift between points, and the main ideas are generally easy to identify. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some ability to guide the reader through the argument. To make progression more consistently effective, connect each explanation more explicitly to the question of whether advantages outweigh disadvantages. Some links are mechanical, and the conclusion repeats earlier claims rather than weighing them. Clarify references such as “they” in the second advantage paragraph and use transitions that show cause, contrast, or evaluation more precisely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-relevant vocabulary, including “ancestors,” “manage and maintain,” “employees,” “struggle,” and “separation.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some phrases show an attempt to use less common language. However, the range is limited by repeated general terms such as “family,” “business,” and “people,” while several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts less natural: “centends,” “in part accordance,” “foster them to avoid this struggle,” and “a rationale for the separation.” Spelling errors such as “memebers” and “agruing” are also noticeable. Build precision by learning common collocations for employment, business management, and family conflict, and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional structures (“if people receive… then they know”) and a contrastive sentence beginning “On the other hand.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “most of people struggling” needs a finite verb and an article, while “family business become” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The opening sentence also contains a difficult, incomplete structure (“I am in part accordance with the stated statement that are equal chances…”). Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses. Proofread for agreement, articles, and complete clauses.
