Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate regarding pros and cons of owning the family businesses. There are divided opinions about that. In my perception, the benefits surpass the detriments. My preference will be explained in the upcoming paragraphs with valid reasons and appropriate examples.

The reason for my inclination is that, if business is owned by the whole family members, then they will work in the unity and they will grow their generational wealth together. For instance, world's seventh richest guy is from India, his name is 'Mukesh Ambani'. His father and his uncle built a company name 'Reliance', and they got famous and wealthy. Moreover, family businesses can helps you to stay connected with the roots, it will also shows the importance of traditional family benefits.

On top of that, In family businesses they do not need to be worried about trust. In the contemporary era, there are lot of fraud cases happening in the big company. As compare to that family memeber is trustworthy. We can rely on them easily for any financial responsibility.

However, the downside should not be disregarded. A family business is the reason for internal conflicts. It will leads to fights and sense of jealousy among the family members. They are becoming rivals under same roof, because of money.

Based on the aforementioned reasoning, I still stand by my stance. Having a family business is a more advantageous than detrimental to a large extent. A joint business will bring prosperity, peace and strength to the business.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction—family businesses have more benefits than drawbacks—and you return to it in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, including building shared wealth, maintaining family connections, and trust, and you acknowledge the counterargument of conflict. The Reliance example also helps make the wealth point more concrete. However, the ideas are not equally developed: the claims about staying connected to one’s roots and family members being trustworthy are asserted rather than explained or supported with examples. The disadvantage is also briefly described without showing how conflicts affect a business. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanisms behind these points and qualify broad claims, while keeping your position consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting your view, a paragraph recognising a drawback, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “On top of that,” and “However” make the direction of the argument easy to follow. This coherent arrangement is a strength. Some connections, however, feel mechanical, and a few references are unclear: “that” in “There are divided opinions about that” does not identify the issue precisely, while “they” in the Reliance example could refer to several people. The conclusion also introduces “peace and strength” without developing these ideas earlier. Use more precise referencing and connect each paragraph’s final point to the central argument to make progression more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “generational wealth,” “internal conflicts,” “financial responsibility,” and “detrimental.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some attempts at more formal language are evident. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “pros and cons of owning the family businesses,” “work in the unity,” and “a company name ‘Reliance’.” There are also spelling and word-form slips, including “memeber” and “helps” in “family businesses can helps you.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for accurate collocations and consistent formal phrasing rather than using elevated expressions that do not fit the sentence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if business is owned … then they will work” and a contrast introduced by “However.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “family businesses can helps” has incorrect verb agreement, “It will leads” uses the wrong verb form, and “A family business is a more advantageous than detrimental” has an unnecessary article and an incomplete comparison structure. Article and number choices also need attention in phrases such as “the whole family members.” Review subject–verb agreement, infinitive forms after modal verbs, and article use. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument clearer and more fluent.
