Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this concurrent world, in many countries people tend to work together in their family business. Because, people believe that they can run and grow their businees by working in a team, which is completely true. Likewise, I personally believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and my points related to this topic with some relevant examples will be elaborated further in paragraphs.

Talking about the positive sides, family can easily exapnd their business within a shorter period of time. Whenever family works in a team and shares the same mindset they can achieve their desired goals by avoiding useless heated arguments and childrens can be easily trained by their father in a shorter period of time. To cite an example, in my city majority of the parents are teaching their child how to run their own business, so that at the time of retirement they can take over the entire work and can become independent. Moreover, this will increase the lifespan of a family business. Unlike other public corporations driven by quarterly earning reports, family enterprises can think in decades and generations, which will help them to work and grow with time and patience.

Talking about the negative sides, going against the interest. Sometimes it is hard to find and share the same interest with others, and working together for a long time with 0 interest can easily jeoparadize a business. In addition to this, people will also have to give up on their dreams by not working towards it.

To conclude, running a family business can be a great option, especially when family members work together as a team to achieve success in a shorter period of time. However, disagreements and working against common goals can easily lead to the downfall of the business. Therefore, the decision to start a family business should be made wisely, after carefully considering its advantages and disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you believe the advantages of family businesses outweigh the disadvantages, and the conclusion restates this view. You address both sides and give relevant support, particularly the example of parents preparing children to take over and the point about planning across generations. However, the advantages are developed more fully than the disadvantages. The concern about family members having different interests is relevant, but the claim that people may give up their dreams is not explained or illustrated, so its effect on the business remains unclear. To strengthen the response, explain this drawback with a specific example and show how it compares with the benefits. Your response already has a clear position and relevant ideas; fuller development of each point would make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction to advantages, disadvantages and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the main stages of your argument, and links such as “Moreover,” “In addition to this” and “To conclude” signal relationships between ideas. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Talking about the negative sides, going against the interest” is an incomplete opening, and the shift from differing interests to giving up personal dreams needs a clearer explanation. The repeated “Talking about” framing also makes the organisation somewhat mechanical. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main point, then connect examples and explanations explicitly. This would preserve the clear progression while making cohesion more natural and the relationship between claims easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including phrases such as “family enterprises,” “quarterly earning reports,” “lifespan” and “downfall.” These choices help you discuss both short-term teamwork and long-term business continuity. There are also attempts at less common or more formal language, but some wording is inaccurate or unnatural, such as “0 interest,” “heated arguments” in this context, and “the entire work.” Spelling errors, including “businees,” “exapnd” and “jeoparadize,” also reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe family members as having “little interest in the business” and taking over “the business” or “its operations.” More consistent control of word choice would make your ideas clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a time clause beginning “Whenever family works in a team” and a comparison with public corporations. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. “Because” creates a sentence fragment in the opening, while “Talking about the negative sides, going against the interest” is also incomplete. There are problems with articles and number, as in “family works” where “a family” or “family members” is needed, and “childrens” should be “children.” The sentence about training children also needs clearer structure to show who is doing the training. Review sentence boundaries, subject–verb agreement and plural forms, then proofread punctuation. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside your existing complex sentences, would improve clarity.
