Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world family member work together to have financial independence. And having a business have lots of advantages then disadvantages. Below I will explain all the points before coming to a cconclusion.

Now a days every individual wants to be free of burden they want to work as per their own conditions. So having a family business helps everyone out. Family members are free from heavy workloads ,which result in stress free life. They get to spend quality time with each other especially with their kids. They have a lot of room to grow their business and be more creative in achieving their goals. Having a family business means less shareholders which leads to making quick decision making with ever changing market. Shared family value strengthen the bond in the minds of consumer as well as staff making business a brand and a deep sense of shared purpose.

But on flip side it creates family rivals as to who will be the successor of the business once everyone retires making it difficult to take executive decision and workplace dynamics. It also leads to nepotism as the position can go to a family member making it difficult for other staff member to grow or to get promotion.

In conclusion, family business have lot of advantages like spending more time with friends and family, creating brand value by sharing personal stories and the ability to make quick decision in changing environment but it also creates family dispute in who will take over the business once everyone retire.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and make your position clear: family businesses have more advantages, although succession disputes and nepotism are drawbacks. Relevant points include flexibility, time together, quicker decisions and shared values. However, some benefits are asserted rather than explained—for example, the claim that family members are free from heavy workloads does not show why working together necessarily reduces workload. The point about building a brand through shared values is promising but would benefit from a specific example or explanation. Your conclusion restates the main ideas, but it could give a more decisive final judgement about why the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Developing and supporting the less clear points would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on advantages, a paragraph on disadvantages and a conclusion. The contrast marker “But on flip side” helps signal the change in direction, and the ideas within each paragraph are generally relevant to its focus. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and also shows some progression. To make the flow more consistently smooth, reduce mechanical signposting such as “Below I will explain all the points” and connect related ideas more explicitly. For instance, the discussion moves from time with children to business growth and then to decision-making without showing how these benefits relate. The conclusion also repeats several points rather than synthesising them into a final comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including “financial independence,” “shareholders,” “nepotism,” “successor” and “shared purpose.” These terms help you discuss both business operations and family relationships, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural choices and collocations, such as “family rivals,” “heavy workloads” in the context of a claimed benefit, and “quick decision making with ever changing market.” Spelling and word-form slips such as “cconclusion” and “a lot of room to grow” also reduce precision. Aim to use business-related phrases accurately and check spelling and collocations; this would make your vocabulary more controlled without needing unnecessarily complex words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which leads to making quick decision making” and a longer sentence about shared family values. The main ideas remain understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, plurals and sentence construction persist. For example, “family member work” needs a plural subject and matching verb, while “family business have” and “everyone retire” also show agreement problems. The opening fragment beginning “And having a business…” is not smoothly connected to the preceding sentence, and punctuation spacing is inconsistent. Work on accurate subject–verb agreement and complete sentence boundaries, then proofread articles and plural endings. More reliable control of these basics would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
