Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary world, family businesses play a mandatory role in the family to keep their roots alive generation after generation. In many parts of the globe, all idividuals of family work together to run a single company. There are ample merits and demerits of this trend however I assert that benefits overshadowed the drawbacks.

To begin with, one signification advantage is successful effort to form positive public image among the customers over the years. As the business is traditional and old, there is good market value of business and company. For example, owners of Brar company earn dollars of money because Brar products have their own public profile in the society from the past 50 years. Thus, it increases the sales of goods .

Apart from this, another pron is that there is no need for the start up investment. To explain, if the corporation is established from the long times , family members can get the well established business from their ancestores without paying any costs. To cite an example, in India owner of a well known automobile company Tata give his 50 years old corporation to his sons. Therefore, family business save cost of establishment to start any work.

However, it has negative impact on the members of family as person lose their own individuality. To justify, people overdepend on that one particular firm and not able to develop new ideas of business. For illustration, according to newspaper Canada Times, almost 70 percent of business men and women just become the puppet of family business . That is why, individuals loose their ability of work efficiency.

To conclude, working in family businesses has put negative impact on the individuality and new ideas of indutrialist however it has merits due to good response from customer in the market as well as free of cost for upcoming generations to work in the corporation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you believe the advantages of family businesses outweigh the disadvantages, and you discuss both sides. The two benefits—an established reputation and avoiding the cost of setting up a business—are relevant, while the loss of individuality provides a contrasting drawback. However, some points are not fully explained. For instance, the Brar example asserts that the company has a strong public profile but does not show how family involvement creates or maintains it. The claim that a business can be passed on “without paying any costs” also needs qualification, and the Tata example is unclear. Develop each reason with a more precise explanation and a credible, directly relevant example to make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting advantages, a paragraph on a disadvantage, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “Apart from this,” and “However” helps readers follow the main direction, and your conclusion returns to your position. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent arrangement and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, several transitions feel formulaic, and links within paragraphs are sometimes unclear. For example, “Thus, it increases the sales of goods” does not fully explain the connection between reputation and sales. The examples also need clearer links to the claims. Use fewer stock phrases and make the cause-and-effect relationship between each reason, explanation, and example explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “public image,” “market value,” “individuality,” and “establishment,” and the reader can generally understand your main points. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but several are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “one signification advantage,” “another pron,” and “owners … earn dollars of money” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “idividuals,” “ancestores,” and “indutrialist” are noticeable, and some phrases are repeated or vague. Choose familiar, accurate collocations rather than forcing formal wording, and proofread spelling. More precise terms for reputation, inheritance, and independence would make the argument clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, including “As the business is traditional and old…” and “However, it has negative impact…”. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. Examples include missing articles in “has negative impact” and “from the long times,” incorrect verb forms in “Tata give” and “family business save,” and agreement problems in “individuals … not able.” Sentence boundaries and spacing are also inconsistent, as in “costs. To cite an example.” Work on subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete sentence construction, then check punctuation. Greater control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts more accurate and easier to read.
