Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people work to fulfill their personal and family needs. Some people start their own businesses which can be run by their family members. It is the best way to reduce the stress and divide the tasks in all the members of the family to work together. This essay willl discuss both the merits and demerits in the following paragraphs, along with my personal opinion.

There are various benefits if a business can be controlled by the family itself. Firstly, every member will be responsible for the task assigned to them. By this way, nobody can complain related to the stress of work. It should be the responsibility of each member to complete the task before deadline. The main benefit is that when a company is run by family members then they can help eachother without any hesitation. For instance, there is no need to organise special meeting for employees to have a discussion on the progress of an agency.

Other than that, the problem of shortage in staff can be easily solved. The members have opportunity to work from home, in case they are not able to come on work site. It provide them flexibilty which is considered as the main advantage for their closed ones as they have enough time to spend with them.

Moving toward the disadvantages of family business, there are some members those do not like to work in a group. They may create issues for the whole company. It can lead a negative effect on the quality of work as well. Some members start arguing on the profit gained by the agency. They want to divide it equally within all members of the family. Sometimes, A single person have to carry burden due to negative behaviour of the other members. To exemplify, a business can follow loses rather than profits due to less performance of some members of the family.

To conclude, It have cons and prons. However, I firmly believe that a business run by family members can definitely gain more profit and remain stress free for all the members, Thers is no risk of staff shortage and if some members create problem then it can be resolved my the elder members of the family.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and state a clear preference for family businesses, especially in the conclusion. Relevant advantages include shared responsibility, mutual help and flexibility, while the disadvantages include disagreements and unequal workloads. However, some points are not fully explained or are unclear: for example, the claim that assigning tasks means “nobody can complain related to the stress of work” is not convincingly supported, and the discussion of working from home is only loosely connected to family businesses. The example about meetings is also brief. Develop fewer points more fully, explain how they affect the business, and make your final judgement directly compare the advantages with the disadvantages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Other than that,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the main stages, and the ideas generally progress logically. This already gives the essay a coherent shape. However, some links feel mechanical, and connections within paragraphs are occasionally unclear. For instance, the move from staff shortages to working from home does not explain how family members’ flexibility solves the problem, while “By this way” and “Moving toward” are awkward transitions. Use linking phrases more naturally and add explicit explanations between claims and examples. The conclusion also repeats earlier points rather than drawing them together into a concise comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “responsible,” “shortage in staff,” “profit,” and “performance.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “carry burden” and “negative behaviour.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “complain related to the stress,” “come on work site,” and “follow loses” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling and word-form errors such as “flexibilty,” “eachother,” and “willl” also reduce control. Build a bank of accurate collocations for work and business, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish workload, staffing, conflict and profitability.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and subordinate clauses, as in “in case they are not able to come on work site” and “if some members create problem.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction remain. Examples include “It provide them,” “a single person have to carry,” and “It have cons and prons.” The opening also contains an unnecessary future form in “This essay willl discuss,” and punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, particularly in the conclusion. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly punctuated structure. Greater accuracy across these varied sentence forms would make the argument easier to read.
