Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr Smith,
I am writing on the behalf of " The Super Stars" company to formally invite you to join us on the inauguration ceremony of the theatre.
The new theatre is built in the center of downdown on the west of Red fort. It is quite spacious and can accomodate two hundred and fifty people in it at a time. The main purpose of building this theatre is to promote creativity and arts among peple.
We would be honored if you could join us inaugurating the theatre.. The event is scheduled for 15 December, and we would be delighted if you could address the audience and unveil the theatre's name plaque.
Your remarkable acting career, dedication to the performing arts and popularity among audiences make you an ideal choice for this occasion. Furthermore, your presence would undoubtedly attract considerable public attention and inspire aspiring actors and performers.
Yours sincerely,
Hoori

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requirements: it describes the theatre’s location and capacity, invites Mr Smith to the opening, and explains his suitability through his acting career, dedication, and popularity. The invitation is clear and includes a date and specific roles, such as addressing the audience and unveiling the name plaque. These details make the purpose easy to understand. The reasons for choosing him are relevant and extended with the point that his presence could attract attention and inspire performers. To make the response more fully developed, add practical information such as the ceremony’s time or a request for confirmation, and give a little more detail about the theatre’s facilities or programme. The formal tone is appropriate throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear sequence: the purpose of writing, details about the theatre, the invitation, and reasons for selecting the actor. Paragraphing helps distinguish the description from the explanation of his suitability, while phrases such as “Furthermore” make the final point easy to follow. The letter also has an appropriate greeting and sign-off. Cohesion is generally effective, though the invitation paragraph could connect more smoothly to the preceding description, and the short paragraphs make the overall development feel somewhat segmented. Consider linking the theatre’s aim of promoting creativity directly to the actor’s influence, and use a more natural transition into the event details. This would make the progression feel more integrated.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The response uses a suitable range of formal and topic-related vocabulary, including “inauguration ceremony,” “promote creativity,” “dedication to the performing arts,” and “aspiring actors.” These choices communicate the purpose and tone effectively, and the meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or awkward expressions. For example, “on the behalf of” is not the natural phrase here, and “join us inaugurating” is an awkward collocation. There are also spelling errors in “downdown,” “accomodate,” and “peple,” which reduce accuracy. To strengthen this area, check spelling carefully and favour natural combinations such as “attend the opening ceremony” and “join us in inaugurating the theatre.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes both straightforward sentences and more developed structures. The conditional invitation, “We would be honored if you could join us,” is appropriately formed, and the sentence explaining why the actor is suitable combines several reasons clearly. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain, however. In “join us inaugurating the theatre,” the verb pattern needs “join us in inaugurating”; the opening phrase should be “on behalf of,” and the sentence ending “theatre..” has an extra full stop. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit the accuracy of the writing. Review verb patterns after “join,” fixed prepositional phrases, and final punctuation to improve control.
