Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to invite you to the opening ceremony of our entertainment company. This theatre is being established for the entertainment of children. It's income will be donated to the orphan children organisation. It's purpose is to provide information about the world and innovations to our children.
In the context of above-mentioned I would like to invite you as a honourable guest of this event. We will be please, if you will come to open the new theatre. It will be a memorable event for all of us. You will also be happy.
Moreover, you are very famous among children because of your acting skills. You are already doing a lot for the children who are living in orphan homes. Your arrival would leave a positve influence. I hope you will give a few minutes from your busy routine.
Yours sincerely,
X.Y.Z.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you describe the theatre’s purpose and charitable income, invite the actor to open it, and explain their appeal to children and connection with orphan homes. The reasons are relevant, and the invitation is clear. However, some details are less fully developed: the theatre’s opening date, location, or programme are not given, and the actor’s suitability is asserted rather than supported with a specific example. The line “You will also be happy” does not explain what the guest would gain. To strengthen the letter, add practical event details and make the personal reason for choosing this actor more specific, while keeping the courteous tone.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the purpose, makes the invitation, and then explains why the actor is suitable. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and expressions such as “Moreover” signal a move to supporting reasons. Some links are less natural or precise, however. “In the context of above-mentioned” is an awkward transition, while “It will be a memorable event for all of us” and “You will also be happy” do not clearly build on the invitation. The closing is appropriate. For stronger progression, use direct transitions and ensure each sentence develops the point immediately before it, especially when moving from the theatre’s purpose to the event invitation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “opening ceremony,” “innovations,” “honourable guest,” and “memorable event,” so the message is understandable and suited to a formal invitation. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, such as “It's income,” “orphan children organisation,” and “give a few minutes from your busy routine.” “Positive” is also misspelled as “positve.” These issues make parts of the letter sound less fluent, even though the intended meaning can generally be inferred. Aim for natural combinations and precise terms—for example, refer to the theatre’s “profits” and ask the actor to “spare a few minutes from their busy schedule.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex forms, such as “because of your acting skills” and “who are living in orphan homes.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors recur and reduce accuracy. Examples include “It's income” for the possessive “Its income,” “a honourable guest” instead of “an honourable guest,” “We will be please,” and the faulty conditional “if you will come.” The sentence “I hope you will give a few minutes” also needs a more suitable verb pattern. Review articles, possessives, adjective forms, and conditional clauses, then proofread each sentence. More consistently accurate structures would make the formal tone more convincing.
