Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr Khan,
I am writing to invite you to the opening ceremony of Sony Enterainment company, where I would like you to be our host and chief guest. Moreover, I would like you to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony.
To begin with, I would like to give some brief about the theatre we are opening. It's a mutli-floor cineplex consisting of 10 auditoriums, located in the heart of the city, which could be easily accessed either through public transport or by car.
I would personally call your manager to confirm your availability and confirm your presence. Moreover, our company will be arranging a pick and drop facility for you along with the security arragements.
Furthermore, this opening ceremony would not just help you to facilitate your latest movie premier, but also help you to interact with the audience to promote and advertise your other upcoming films.
I hope you will take my invite into serious consideration and help me make this event, a mega success event.
Yours sincerly,
Prateek Soni

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the main requirements by describing the theatre, inviting Mr Khan to the ceremony and explaining how his involvement could benefit the event. Details such as “10 auditoriums” and its central location make the venue more concrete, while the promotional opportunity gives a relevant reason for choosing him. However, the invitation could be more direct and complete: you do not specify when the ceremony will take place, and the benefit to the actor is emphasised more than why he is personally suitable to open the theatre. Develop this point—for example, by referring to his reputation or contribution to cinema—and include a clear request for his response. The purpose is clear overall, though some parts are less fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with the invitation, gives information about the theatre, covers practical arrangements and then explains a possible benefit to the actor. Paragraphing helps separate these points, and transitions such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” guide the reader. At times, however, the linking feels mechanical, with several paragraphs beginning through explicit signposting rather than a more natural progression. The sentence about contacting the manager and confirming the actor’s presence is also slightly unclear about whether this is a request or a plan. Make the sequence more purposeful by moving from the invitation to event details, then to the reason for choosing him, and finish with a clear request and courteous closing.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range for a formal invitation, including relevant terms such as “opening ceremony,” “auditoriums,” “ribbon cutting ceremony” and “security arrangements.” These choices make the subject clear, and the promotional vocabulary helps explain a possible benefit to the actor. Some word choices and collocations are less natural, however: “give some brief” and “mega success event” do not sound idiomatic, while “facilitate your latest movie premier” is imprecise for the intended meaning. There are also spelling errors, including “Enterainment,” “mutli-floor,” “arragements” and “sincerly.” Proofread carefully and choose more conventional formal expressions to make the vocabulary more precise and polished.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the message remains easy to understand. For example, the sentence describing the cineplex combines its size, location and accessibility, while the final benefit sentence uses a “not just…but also” structure. Some grammatical and punctuation issues remain. In “I would like to give some brief about the theatre,” the construction needs a grammatical noun phrase, and “I would personally call your manager to confirm your availability and confirm your presence” repeats the verb in a way that makes the intended sequence unclear. The long sentence about the ceremony’s benefits would also be clearer if its parallel structure were controlled. Review sentence construction and punctuation so that complex ideas read smoothly.
