Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Madam,
I hope this letter finds you in a radiant health. I am writing this letter to invite you on the opening ceremony of our new cinema. Which is taking place on 1st December 2026.
We already have a cinema in the city which shows only Bollywood movies. Now, our company is opening a new branch of theater in the city hall. Where individuals can enjoy variety of shows such as Bollywood, Pollywood and Hollywood.
My company was discussing to invite a famous person for the opening celebration of the theater and I have given your name. Your presence will give grace to this occasion. Because you are a renowned actress in our town and people will love to support this cinema if you come at the ceremony.
It would be grateful if you confirm your presence at launching ceremony. Please confirm with us before 30 November 2026. So we can take measures accordingly for this memorable event.
I am looking forward for a positive response from you.
Your faithfully,
Lakhvir Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you describe the existing cinema and the new theatre’s range of films, invite the actor to the opening on 1 December, and explain that her reputation could attract local support. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. The reason for choosing her is present, but “people will love to support this cinema if you come” is a broad prediction rather than a developed explanation of her particular suitability. The theatre information could also be clearer about its facilities or what makes it distinctive. The response therefore covers the task, with some points less fully developed; adding a specific reason linked to the actor’s career or connection with the community would strengthen it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible sequence: it introduces the invitation, describes the venue, explains why the actor was selected, and requests confirmation. Paragraphing helps separate these purposes, and the closing is appropriate in intent. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Which is taking place…” and “Where individuals can enjoy…” are separated from the clauses they depend on, while “Because you are…” creates a fragment rather than a smooth explanation. The repeated use of “theater” and “ceremony” also makes the progression feel less flexible. Connect these ideas within complete sentences and use clearer references to the event and venue to make the letter flow more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a formal invitation, including “renowned actress,” “opening celebration,” and “memorable event.” The meaning is generally clear, and the references to Bollywood, Pollywood, and Hollywood give the venue description some specificity. However, several word choices or collocations are unnatural, such as “invite you on the opening ceremony,” “a radiant health,” and “give grace to this occasion.” “Cinema” and “theater” are also used inconsistently for the new venue. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they limit the naturalness and precision of the letter. Aim for conventional formal expressions and use one consistent term for the venue.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors, however, affect accuracy and sentence control. “Which is taking place on 1st December 2026” and “Where individuals can enjoy…” are dependent clauses presented as sentences; attach them to the preceding clauses. “I am looking forward for a positive response” also has an incorrect preposition, and “Your faithfully” does not use the correct possessive form. Punctuation around “Because” and “So” contributes to sentence fragments. Practise combining clauses with relative pronouns and subordinating conjunctions, and check articles, prepositions, and sentence boundaries before sending the letter.
