Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Abhijot,

I would like to invite you to come on the opening ceremony of our new theatre. My company built a new theatre and planning to open it next month on December 25th. They give me the responsibility to invite a special guest for this occassion. Therefore, I believe that you could be the best person to invite as you gave many years of your hardwork to the entertainment industry and became a role model for the new generation.

Moreover, the name of the theatre is The lion Club, which is also insipired from one of your famous tv shows. My company owned two theatres before, however the succes of a recently produced show got enormous success. As a result, My team took the decision to built a new theatre on a different location.Furthermore, the company has decided to donate its earnings to a child orphange home for five years.

You are a inspiration for all of us and did a faboulus job in the entertainment industry. It would be a pleasure for all of us to invite you on this special occassion. I would request you to please get some free time from your busy sechedule and make it a memorable day for everyone. I would like to hear from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Harnoor

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requirements: it gives details about the theatre and its opening date, invites the actor to open it, and explains why the actor is suitable, citing their contribution to entertainment and role-model status. The theatre’s name being inspired by the actor’s show and the plan to donate earnings also add relevant context. The purpose is clear throughout, and the reasons are extended with supporting details. To make the response stronger, state the opening role more explicitly—for example, ask the actor to perform the official opening—and clarify what their participation would involve. Some supporting points, such as the success of the recent show, are mentioned but not fully connected to the decision to build the theatre.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: the invitation and its rationale come first, theatre background follows, and the final paragraph returns to the request and closes politely. Linking expressions such as “Therefore,” “Moreover,” and “As a result” help show relationships between ideas. This gives the response a coherent progression, though some connections feel mechanical or are not fully logical: the recent show’s success is repeated as “got enormous success,” and the link between that success and the new theatre could be expressed more smoothly. Paragraphing is appropriate, but the second paragraph contains several details that would benefit from clearer sequencing. Use transitions selectively and make each sentence’s connection to the main invitation explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses a range of relevant vocabulary for a formal invitation, including “opening ceremony,” “responsibility,” “role model,” and “donate its earnings.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision and naturalness. Examples include “occassion,” “insipired,” “succes,” “faboulus,” and “sechedule”; “got enormous success” is also an unnatural collocation. Some phrases, such as “come on the opening ceremony,” do not express the intended meaning idiomatically. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. More precise wording for the actor’s contribution and the theatre’s charitable plan would make the invitation sound more polished and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “which is also inspired from one of your famous TV shows” and a contrast using “however.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction are frequent enough to limit control. For example, “My company built a new theatre and planning to open it” needs a consistent subject and verb structure, while “They give me the responsibility” requires an appropriate tense. “You are a inspiration” also has an article error, and the sentence beginning “My company owned two theatres before” is awkwardly constructed. Practise checking each sentence for a complete verb phrase, consistent tense, and correct articles; also use punctuation to separate closely connected clauses.
