Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Sir,

With utmost respect and being star struck , I am writing this letter to invite you to the opening of the Grand Theater in Kandivali Mumbai. On behalf of the National Entertainment Company , I would like the Opening ceremony to be conducted with your hands.

To initiate, I would like to tell you a little more about our company and the Grand Theater. National Entertainment Company (NEC) has been entertaining people of India for more than 35 years now. With different amusement parks , museums, aquariums , circus to theaters, NEC has won several hearts and made people smile from different ages and backgrounds. Grand theater is scheduled to open in Kandivali Mumbai next week Saturday August the 5th , and the peculiar thing about this theater is that it is focused on children (age between 9-16 years) and will strive to give them opportunities to succeed in the theater industry. This will be the first theater of a kind with this purpose.

I do not think words can ever describe how big of a fan I am of you and particularly your work in movies and production. Our company is well aware of your recent child support foundation that you have established for the young children seeking financial and mental health. We really think this purpose aligns really well with the theater's motive and you would be a perfect fit to inaugurate this theater.

Wishing to hear back from you with immense hope in hearts that you will come and bless the theater and its purpose by opening the theater with your hands.

Sincerely,

Abhi

Administrative Head (National Entertainment Company)

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided relevant information about the Grand Theater, extended a clear invitation, and provided a logical justification for why this specific actor is a suitable choice based on their charitable work. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the context of an entertainment company. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To initiate' and 'This will be', though some transitions could be more sophisticated. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the company background from the invitation and the justification. Overall, the flow of information is smooth, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'utmost respect', 'inaugurate', and 'strive'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'conducted with your hands' is unnatural; 'officiate the opening' or 'perform the ribbon-cutting ceremony' would be more idiomatic. Additionally, 'star struck' is slightly informal for this context. Despite these minor issues, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly and effectively throughout the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the majority of your sentences are clear, there are occasional grammatical slips, such as 'people of India for more than 35 years now' (missing 'the') and 'seeking financial and mental health' (which should be 'seeking support for...'). Punctuation is generally handled well, though there are some minor issues with spacing before commas. These errors are non-systematic and do not impede the reader's understanding of your request.
