Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir,

I am marketing manager at an ABC entertainment company. I am writing this letter to invite you to inaugurate a new theatre opened in this town on 29th September 2026. This is a modern multiplex with six different screen's where different movies can be played at the same time.

Six different screens are built to cater different customers. For instance, two screens are for private screening such as premier shows. Two screen's are catered for luxury which has privater butler for in-theatre dining with recliner seats. The rest of the screen's have plenty of seats. It would be my pleasure to invite you for the opening as it's named in the memory of your grandfather. Additionally, it would be our honor to play your current movie in all of the screen's.

This token of appreciation is presented at the request of the community, in recognition of your extensive social work and dedicated service. On behalf of entire ABC entertainment company, I would take care of all the required arrangements while you visit. It would be great if you can confirm by end of next week which would give us ample time to take care of the arrangements. Looking forward for your response.

Yours sincerely,

XYZ

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points of the prompt. You provided relevant details about the new theatre, issued a clear invitation, and offered a logical justification for why the actor is the ideal person to open it. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the outset. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, the connection between the actor's grandfather and the theatre is a strong point that could have been elaborated upon slightly more to add depth to your request.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the description of the theatre from the invitation and the logistical details. While the flow is generally good, some transitions between sentences feel slightly mechanical. For example, the repetition of 'Six different screens' at the start of consecutive sentences could be improved by using more varied cohesive devices or pronouns to link your ideas more fluidly. Overall, the progression of information is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'inaugurate', 'multiplex', and 'token of appreciation' appropriately. However, there are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'cater different customers' (should be 'cater to') and 'privater butler' (a spelling error). Additionally, the repeated use of 'screen's' with an unnecessary apostrophe throughout the text is a persistent error. To improve, focus on using apostrophes correctly for plurals versus possessives and aim for more precise collocations to enhance your professional tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several recurring grammatical errors, particularly with punctuation and articles. The misuse of the apostrophe in 'screen's' occurs multiple times, and there are minor errors such as 'I am marketing manager' (missing the article 'a') and 'privater' (incorrect adjective form). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and punctuation will significantly improve your accuracy.
