Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to formally invite you to be a chief guest in our theatre's grand opening ceremony which is going to held on September 29th, 2026 in the city centre. The venue has a capacity of around 500 people and we will be hosting some short clips of famous movies, art performances and cultural events for the local community.
We would be delighted if you could attend the inaugration ceremony and present your opinions about the importance of art and culture to our guests. Since the ceremony will have local artists, community leaders, media and general public, it will be an honor to have you with us for providing more details about this new entertainment facility.
As you inspire people from all age groups to stay connected to their cultures, I believe that you would be an ideal person for this occasion. Your presence will be considerably significant for the success of the event.
We hope that you will accept our invitation and will make our ceremony much more memorable. Please let us know if you need any special arrangement for your visit.
Yours sincerely,
Jashanpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You provided clear information about the new theatre, including its capacity and the type of events planned. The invitation is explicit, and you provided a logical justification for why this actor is the ideal person to open the theatre, citing their ability to inspire different age groups. The tone is appropriately formal and polite throughout. The response is well-structured and covers all requirements of the task effectively, ensuring the reader understands the purpose and context of the invitation without any ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized, with a clear progression of ideas from the introduction of the event to the specific invitation and the justification. Each paragraph has a clear focus. You used cohesive devices such as 'Since', 'As', and 'Therefore' (implied) effectively to link ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter. The flow is smooth, and the relationship between the sentences is clear, making the letter easy to follow for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a formal letter, such as 'formally invite', 'inauguration ceremony', and 'considerably significant'. There are a few minor spelling errors, such as 'inaugration' (inauguration), but these do not impede communication. The word choice is generally precise and fits the context of a professional invitation. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate more sophisticated collocations or idiomatic expressions that sound natural in a professional correspondence context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are error-free and clear. There is a minor grammatical slip in the first paragraph: 'is going to held' should be 'is going to be held'. Additionally, 'for providing' in the second paragraph is slightly awkward; 'to provide' would be more natural. Despite these minor issues, your control over grammar is strong, and the meaning is never obscured. The punctuation is accurate throughout the letter.
