Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You provide information about the theatre, extend a clear invitation, and explain why the actor is a suitable choice. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is slightly uneven; while the explanation for choosing the actor is clear, the description of the theatre could be more precise. The closing is incomplete, which affects the overall task completion. To improve, ensure you fully develop your supporting points and always include a complete, formal sign-off.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Consequently' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the jump from the theatre's capacity to the invitation is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used correctly, but the ending is cut off, which disrupts the final coherence of the letter. Ensure that your cohesive devices are used naturally to connect ideas rather than just acting as signposts.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'historical achievement', 'magnificent building', and 'inauguration'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as '3 storyed' (should be 'three-storey') and 'motivates' (should be 'motivate'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring correct word forms, such as using 'three-storey' as an adjective rather than '3 storyed'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'these theatre has' (should be 'this theatre has'), 'provide chance' (should be 'provide a chance'), and 'While your were' (should be 'While you were'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor errors like the missing comma after 'As a result'. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage to improve your accuracy.
