Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response fully addresses all three bullet points of the task. You provided clear information about the new theatre, including its capacity and facilities. The invitation is explicit and polite, and you provided a logical justification for why this specific actor would be an ideal guest, citing their professional reputation. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a public figure. All parts of the prompt are well-developed, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. No information is missing, and the response maintains a consistent focus on the task requirements throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow the narrative easily. You used appropriate cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this' and 'because of your outstanding contribution' to link ideas effectively. The paragraphing is sufficient and appropriate for a formal letter. The transition between the description of the theatre and the invitation is smooth, and the closing is standard and professional. The overall structure is coherent and easy to navigate.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a formal business context. Phrases like 'state of the art facility', 'guest of honour', and 'officially inaugurate' are well-chosen and add a professional tone to the letter. There is a minor error in 'host variety of live performance' (should be 'a variety of live performances'), but this does not impede communication. You successfully use topic-specific vocabulary related to theatre and events. The language is natural and precise enough to convey your message effectively without being repetitive.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response shows a good control of grammatical structures. You use a mix of simple and complex sentences effectively, such as 'We believe you would be an ideal person to open the theatre because of your outstanding contribution'. There are a few minor slips, such as 'a an ideal person' (article repetition) and 'Hope to hear from soon' (missing object 'you'). However, these are rare and do not interfere with the clarity of the message. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and the punctuation is generally accurate throughout the text.
