Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Rohit Saraf,
I am writing on behalf of Starline Entertainment to invite you to inaugurate our newly built theatre, which is scheduled to open next month.
Named The Grand Stage, the theatre is located in the heart of the city and has designed to provide audiences with a memorable entertainment experience. It has 500-seat auditorium, comfortable seating, advanced sound and lighting systems, and modern backstage facilities. We have also created a small exhibition showcasing memorable moments from Indian cinema.
We would be delighted if you could officially open the theatre by unreveiling the inaugural plaque and addressing our guests. The ceremony will be followed by a special performance and a reception attended by local artists, journalists and cinema lovers.
We feel that you would be the perfect person for this occasion because of your versatie acting skills and strong connection with your younger audiences. Your performances have earned you a loyal fan base, and your presence would undoubtedly attract considerable attention to our new theatre. More importantly, you could inspire aspiring actors to pursue their passion for cinema.
I sincerely hope you will accept our invitation and make the special occasion even more indelible.
Yours sincerely,
Prapti Shastri

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You provide clear details about 'The Grand Stage,' including its capacity and facilities. The invitation is explicit and polite, and your justification for choosing the actor—citing his versatility and connection with younger audiences—is well-developed and relevant. The tone is consistently appropriate for a formal business letter, and the purpose of the communication is clear from the outset. You have fully satisfied the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs covering each requirement, and a professional closing. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, and the progression of ideas is smooth. You use cohesive devices effectively, such as 'More importantly' and 'The ceremony will be followed by,' which help guide the reader through the text. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is coherent and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a formal invitation, such as 'inaugurate,' 'indelible,' and 'loyal fan base.' There is a minor spelling error ('versatie' instead of 'versatile') and a slight collocation issue ('has designed' should be 'has been designed'). However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. You successfully use topic-specific vocabulary related to theatre and events, which shows a good level of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a variety of sentence structures, including complex sentences, effectively. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as the passive voice error 'has designed' instead of 'has been designed' and the missing article in 'It has 500-seat auditorium' (should be 'a 500-seat auditorium'). Despite these occasional slips, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and tense is generally strong. The grammar does not interfere with the clarity of your message.
