Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: providing information about the theatre, extending the invitation, and explaining why the actor is a suitable choice. However, the development of these points is somewhat basic. For instance, the description of the theatre focuses on generic facilities like 'washrooms' and 'a cafe' rather than highlighting the unique or artistic aspects of the venue. The explanation for the invitation is also quite simple, relying on the actor's fame rather than a more nuanced connection to the theatre's vision. To reach a higher band, the ideas should be expanded with more descriptive detail and a more professional tone.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. There is a basic progression of ideas from the introduction to the invitation and the justification. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the description of the theatre and the invitation is abrupt. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the sentence fragment 'Because of your outstanding contribution...', which lacks a proper connection to the preceding clause. Improving the flow between sentences using a wider range of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and sophistication. Phrases like 'big hall' and 'lighting system is good' are quite simplistic. While the student successfully communicates the message, there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic expressions that would demonstrate a higher level of control. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'apprise you I am working in' instead of 'inform you that I work for'. Expanding the range of adjectives and using more precise professional terminology would improve the score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'in all ages people' (should be 'people of all ages') and the sentence fragment starting with 'Because of your...'. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often repetitive. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, the student should focus on sentence combining and ensuring that subordinate clauses are correctly attached to main clauses.
