Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Salman khan,

I hope you are doing well. I am delighted to give you an invitation to be the special guest and inaugurate the new theatre in our area.

Our theatre is modern and well-designed, which provides welcoming space, game zone for infants, 5 gigantic screens with a combination of dolby sound system. Moreover, it has an excellent seating arrangement, open space for live performance, and one of the bests lighting, which helps the viewers to experience absolute cinema at our theatre.

I believe that you would be the perfect person to invite because your connections with local community and your contribution to the art and entertainment industry will attract a lot more attention. Your presence would make this special occasion even more memorable and inspiring for everyone attending.

We would be honoured if you could join us and officially open the new theatre. We sincerely hope you will accept our invitation. The inauguration is going to be held on 15th September,2026 and my contact number is enclosed with this letter.

Yours faithfully,

Sujal Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You provided a clear description of the theatre's features, extended a formal invitation, and justified why the actor is a suitable choice. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the outset. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about the theatre's location or the nature of the opening ceremony to further develop your ideas. Overall, the task requirements are fully met with a clear and consistent focus.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. You used cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'I believe that' to link ideas effectively. However, the transition between the description of the theatre and the invitation could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text. The use of 'Yours faithfully' is correct given the salutation used.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'inaugurate', 'gigantic', 'memorable', and 'inspiring'. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'one of the bests lighting' (should be 'best lighting systems') and 'provides welcoming space' (needs an article: 'a welcoming space'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching the highest band. Expanding your use of more sophisticated collocations related to event planning would further enhance your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are clear and grammatically sound. There are a few minor errors, such as the missing article in 'provides welcoming space' and the comma splice in '15th September,2026' (which should have a space after the comma). Additionally, 'one of the bests' is a grammatical error regarding pluralization. Despite these occasional slips, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over complex structures is generally good, supporting a solid band 7.0 performance.
