Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully introduced the new theatre, extended a formal invitation, and provided a rationale for why the actor is a suitable choice. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal business letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of why the actor is a good choice relies on repetitive praise rather than specific professional achievements. To improve, you could elaborate on how their specific acting style or past performances align with the theatre's vision, which would provide more depth to your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised, with each paragraph addressing a specific part of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'As I mentioned above' and 'Please let me know' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between the event details and the invitation could be smoother. Additionally, the paragraphing is clear, but the internal cohesion within the fourth paragraph is slightly repetitive, which affects the overall progression of your argument. Using a wider variety of linking words would help improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'opening ceremony' and 'participation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'People are really the presence of you' is unclear and unnatural. Additionally, 'studying roleplay' is not the standard term for acting or drama studies. While your meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'most famous' would significantly enhance your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that, while they do not impede communication, are noticeable. For instance, 'Your participation is really matters to us' contains a double verb error, and 'Your sincerely' is an incorrect closing phrase (it should be 'Yours sincerely'). Furthermore, there are minor punctuation and article usage issues throughout the text. To reach a higher band, you should aim for more error-free sentences and ensure that subject-verb agreement is consistently accurate, especially when using more complex sentence structures.
