Dear........,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Vin,
I am writing to delightfully invite you on our company's new theatre opening, which will be held in Downtown of Brampton. The assigned date is September 18, on Thursday.
It would be a great opportunity for us to have you at our opening ceremony of new theatre as a chief guest. As you are an inspiring popular personality for many people, you can give some good messages to them through your a small motivational speech.
As people would get to know that you are arriving for opening the newly built cinema, they would definitely reach here to see or meet you. Simultaneously, it is a fantastic way to promote our theatre's services to ordinary people, which I believe that would contribute to the company's profits.
I would appreciate it, if you could make a time to visit our new premises at your convenience.
I look forward hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Balraj Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: providing information about the theatre, extending an invitation, and explaining why the actor is a suitable choice. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why the actor is a good choice focuses heavily on the commercial benefit of attracting a crowd, rather than highlighting the actor's artistic contribution or connection to the theatre's values. To reach a higher band, the response could provide more specific details about the theatre's features or the actor's specific achievements to make the invitation feel more personalized and professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the task. Cohesive devices such as 'As', 'Simultaneously', and 'I would appreciate it' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. To improve, the writer could use a wider variety of cohesive devices to create a more natural flow between sentences, as some connections currently rely on simple sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. Phrases like 'opening ceremony' and 'motivational speech' are used correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'invite you on our company's new theatre opening' (should be 'to') and 'reach here' (should be 'come here' or 'attend'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited; using more sophisticated synonyms would enhance the professional tone of the letter. Overall, the errors do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'through your a small motivational speech' (redundant article), 'I look forward hearing' (should be 'to hearing'), and 'make a time' (should be 'find the time'). Punctuation is generally accurate, but the control over articles and prepositions is inconsistent. To achieve a higher score, the writer should aim for more error-free complex sentences and ensure greater precision in prepositional usage.
