Dear........,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Ram,
I am working as program coordinator in a Star entertainment company, we are opening up a new theater in your local region. I am very pleased to invite you at the inauguration of this theater as a chief guest. Primarily, this theater is all about the classical dramas and music. Our inspiration to build such theater is reviving the traditional things such as dance, clothes, gadgets and other pieces of old art.
We were looking forward to invite specific celebrity who did classical work in their drama carrier. Believe me, your name came first to my mind. Secondly, a theater would get the boost if such a renowned personality like you show up in the opening ceremony. It would be honor for us to welcome you, I really you would give us such a warming opportunity.
As you took retirement from your acting profession, but people always look forward to see you somewhere. It would not be a lie to say that you lives in a heart of every single person of your city.
Thank you for your time. I would be waiting for your positive response..
Yours sincerely,
Jasleen Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You provided information about the new theatre, extended a clear invitation, and explained why the actor is a suitable choice. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose is clear from the beginning. To improve, you could provide more specific details about the theatre's location or facilities to make the invitation feel more authentic. Additionally, ensure that the reasons for the invitation are fully developed; while you mention the actor's classical background, expanding on how their presence would specifically benefit the theatre's opening would strengthen the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the invitation and the justification. Paragraphing is used to separate these ideas, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical. For example, the transition 'Primarily' and 'Secondly' is a bit rigid. You could improve the flow by using more varied linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'such theater') is more precise. Some sentences feel slightly disconnected, and improving the transition between the description of the theatre and the invitation would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'inauguration', 'renowned personality', and 'classical dramas'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'drama carrier' (should be 'acting career') and 'warming opportunity' (should be 'wonderful opportunity'). Additionally, 'reviving the traditional things' is a bit vague; using more precise vocabulary like 'reviving traditional art forms' would be more effective. While your vocabulary is sufficient for the task, incorporating more sophisticated collocations would help you reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'I am working as program coordinator in a Star entertainment company' lacks the correct article usage ('the' or 'a'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'you lives in a heart' (should be 'you live in the hearts') and 'I really you would give us' (missing a verb like 'hope'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
