Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Dhoni,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to invite you for the opening ceremony of our newly developed theatre.
This theatre is fully furnished and it has two floors which allows sitting for the 1000 people at the same time. In addition, all the rooms has a sound proof interior which not only makes theatre experience amazing by watching shows on high volumes but also does not affect the local citizens.
Opening ceremony will take place on 22nd September, 2026 at 4.30PM at the theatre, so, I would like you to come and take part in our ribbon-cutting event for new theatre.
I think you would be a great personality to open the theatre because you had been working in entertainment industry so long, and while a good number of fans are follows you everyday, it would be a great opportunity us to attract more audiences to attend this theatre for upcoming shows.
Thank you for your time and efforts to make this event memorable. I look forward to see you in person.
Yours faithfully,
Axay Nayi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all bullet points outlined in the prompt. You gave clear information about the new theatre by mentioning its two-floor capacity and sound-proof interior. You appropriately invited the actor for the opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting event on September 22nd. Furthermore, you explained why he would be a suitable choice by highlighting his long-standing career in the entertainment industry and his large fan base, which will help attract more audiences. The tone is polite, consistent, and fully appropriate for a formal letter to a celebrity. All parts of the task are adequately addressed, meeting the criteria for a solid score in this category.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression, with logical paragraphing that separates the introduction, theatre details, event specifics, justification for the invitation, and the closing remarks. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition' and 'so' are used to connect ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The sign-off and salutation strictly follow standard letter-writing conventions. While the paragraphing and sequencing are generally clear, a greater variety of advanced cohesive devices would be needed to reach higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a general business letter, incorporating terms like 'opening ceremony', 'sound proof interior', and 'ribbon-cutting event'. However, there are some noticeable vocabulary and collocation errors. For instance, 'allows sitting for the 1000 people' should be phrased as 'has a seating capacity of 1,000 people', and 'a good number of fans are follows you' contains a grammatical and lexical mismatch. While communication is never impeded, these inaccuracies restrict the score to a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as using subordinate clauses with 'which' ('which not only makes theatre experience amazing...'). However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('all the rooms has') and tense inconsistencies ('you had been working', 'are follows you'). Punctuation could also be improved, particularly regarding comma splices and comma usage before conjunctions. The frequent presence of these errors places this response firmly in the Band 6 category.
