Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The candidate successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. The letter begins by introducing the new Galaxy theatre near Toronto, inviting the actor Alex to open it, and explaining why Alex is the ideal person due to the actor's popularity with the younger generation and the fact that a recent movie trailer is playing on their screens. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or expressed with minor confusion, such as 'invite to open our new Galaxy theatre soon' missing the pronoun 'you', and the purpose of the event mixing the ribbon-cutting with movie promotion. Nevertheless, the tone is appropriate for a general correspondence, and all parts of the prompt are addressed clearly. This falls within the Band 6 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is arranged in clear paragraphs, starting with an appropriate salutation, moving through the details of the theatre and the invitation, and closing with a polite sign-off. Cohesive devices like 'Plus', 'As', and 'and' are used to connect ideas, although some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'Plus' and 'As' at the beginnings of sentences. Referencing is generally clear, but paragraphing could be managed with smoother transitions to achieve higher band levels. Overall, the organization is coherent and easy to follow, satisfying the requirements for Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The candidate demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully communicating ideas about entertainment, theatre features, and event invitations. There are several vocabulary and collocation errors, such as 'It was located' instead of 'It is located', 'It was built such an unique design' containing a grammatical and lexical mismatch, and 'It is our honored' instead of 'It is our honor'. Less common items are attempted, including 'mesmerize', 'underground', and 'promotion', but inaccuracies in word form and choice prevent the score from reaching a higher band. Communication is not impeded by these lexical slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and causal clauses introduced by 'As'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies ('It was located', 'It was built', 'is also play'), missing prepositions or pronouns ('invite to open'), and spelling/word-form errors ('Frst', 'oppenning', 'occassion'). While these errors do not impede overall comprehension, they occur regularly and demonstrate limited control over complex structures. This performance aligns closely with the Band 5 descriptors.
