Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The student covers all the key requirements of the prompt well. The letter successfully gives information about the new theatre by mentioning its name, 'RITZ MINIPLEX', seating capacity, and features. It issues a clear invitation for the opening ceremony and provides reasons why the recipient would be a suitable guest, pointing out their popularity as a youth icon. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal business-to-individual invitation, though the opening salutation contains a minor error. All bullet points from the prompt are adequately addressed and extended with relevant supporting details. Overall, the task is handled effectively, earning a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter demonstrates clear logical organisation with an appropriate opening, body paragraphs covering distinct points, and a standard sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'Secondly' are used to structure the text, though they are at times slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, details of the venue, event timing, and the justification for the invitation. While referencing and paragraph transitions are generally logical, the occasional awkward connection keeps this criterion at the band 6.5 level, as cohesion is functional rather than completely fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'surveillance', 'celebrities', and 'youth icon'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'threate' instead of theatre, 'sitting capacity' instead of seating capacity, 'ribbion cutiing', 'follwoing' instead of following, and 'cermony' instead of ceremony. These lexical errors and typos prevent the score from reaching higher bands, although communication is never severely impeded and the intent remains clear throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses and participial phrases in sentences like 'As you are the youth icon for youngster, and having fan follwoing over 2 million.' However, there are frequent grammatical inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, including 'invite you on the opening', 'theatre will be introduced in', 'following by', and 'youth icon for youngster'. Punctuation and article usage also show occasional lapses. While these errors do not prevent the message from getting across, they demonstrate inconsistent control over complex grammar forms, justifying this score.
