Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt effectively. The student gives information about the new theatre by describing its layout, including the three floors, the mini theatres, and their capacities. The invitation to open the new theatre is clearly stated in the third paragraph, where the writer explicitly invites Mr. James to open the cinema. Furthermore, the writer explains why he would be a suitable person by mentioning his past guidance and ideas when the company started, as well as offering a cross-promotional opportunity for his upcoming movie. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a famous actor, and all ideas are adequately developed, earning a solid Band 7.0 for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as the theatre details, the formal invitation, and the reasoning behind the choice. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Additionally' and 'Therefore', ensuring a clear flow of ideas. However, referencing is occasionally slightly repetitive or mechanical (for instance, the heavy repetition of 'the theatre' and 'has' in the second paragraph). Nevertheless, the overall progression is clear throughout, making the letter easy to follow and justifying a Band 7.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a formal invitation letter, such as 'marketing director', 'formally invite', and 'upcoming movie'. There are, however, a few noticeable lexical and collocational errors that prevent a higher band. For example, writing 'scheduled on 27th of December' instead of 'scheduled for', 'kids play area' missing an apostrophe, 'has ability to occupied' instead of 'has the capacity to accommodate', and 'became who we are today' instead of 'become'. Despite these slips, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly without impeding communication, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptors well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and subordinate clauses effectively. There are several grammatical errors present, such as 'which comprises' (subject-verb agreement issue given 'three floors'), 'In the first floor' (incorrect preposition; 'on the first floor'), 'each can accomodate' (spelling error 'accommodate'), and 'to campaign your upcoming movie' (awkward prepositional use or collocation). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, and the sentence structures remain reasonably varied. This performance aligns comfortably with the Band 6.0 criteria.
