Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr Fawad,
I am writing to invite you to the opening ceremony of our new theatre located in Lahore, a famous city of Pakistan. We are working an an entertainment company in Karachi, for the last 20 years. You must have heard the name of "Heer Ranjha Entertainment Company".We are already much famous for our comic plays. Now we are planning to extend our name to the other cities of pakistan.
Our new theatre is situated in Johar town Lahore, near the Emporium Mall. We have hired a team of some efficient actors and directors there, in order to perform in the best possible way on the stage. We are inviting you wholeheartedly to the opening of our new theatre. Your presence there would be the cause of extreme joy for the whole team.
Another reason for inviting you is that you are already working in this field for many years and you are quite aware of the best productions, directions and acting skills that should be present in a team to perform better on the stage. Therefore, we can also get benefitted by your abilities and assessment.
Yours truly,
Ahmad Sultan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. You provide clear information about the new theatre by mentioning its location in Johar Town, Lahore near the Emporium Mall. You effectively invite the actor by stating, "We are inviting you wholeheartedly to the opening of our new theatre," and you explain why he is suitable for the role by noting his extensive experience in the field and his ability to assess acting skills and productions. The tone is polite and appropriate for a formal letter to a celebrity, and all aspects of the task are well-developed and easy to follow.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter exhibits a clear overall structure and logical progression. It is divided into an appropriate salutation, an introductory paragraph outlining the company and purpose, a body paragraph describing the theatre, another body paragraph explaining the reasons for the invitation, and a proper sign-off. Cohesive devices such as "Now we are planning," "In order to," and "Another reason for inviting you" are used effectively to guide the reader through the ideas. Paragraphing is handled well, ensuring each main point has its own distinct section.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate and appropriate for a formal invitation, featuring terms like "opening ceremony," "entertainment company," and "efficient actors and directors." However, there are some minor lexical and collocational inaccuracies, such as writing "We are working an an entertainment company" instead of "as," and stating "much famous" instead of "very famous." Additionally, phrases like "cause of extreme joy" could be more natural. The vocabulary suffices to communicate your message clearly, but it falls short of the precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as "Another reason for inviting you is that you are already working in this field for many years..." There are, however, some noticeable grammatical errors and awkward prepositions, such as "working an an entertainment company" and "for the last 20 years" (which should often use the present perfect continuous with 'have been working'). Punctuation is generally fine, and these grammatical lapses rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to understand the intended meaning without confusion.
