Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr Fawad,
I am writing to invite you to the opening ceremony of our new theatre located in Lahore, a famous city of Pakistan. We are working as an entertainment company in Karachi for the last 20 years. You must have heard the name of "Heer Ranjha Entertainment Company".We are already well famous for our comic plays. Now we are planning to extend our name to the other cities of Pakistan.
Our new theatre is situated in Johar Town Lahore, near the Emporium Mall. We have hired a team of some efficient actors and directors there, in order to perform in the best possible way on the stage. We are inviting you wholeheartedly to the opening of our new theatre. Your presence there would be the cause of extreme joy for the whole team.
Another reason for inviting you is that you are already working in this field for many years and you are quite aware of the best productions, directions and acting skills that should be present in a team to perform better on the stage. Therefore, we can also get benefit by your abilities and assessment.
Yours truly,
Ahmad Sultan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student covers all three bullet points required in the task prompt in a clear and appropriate manner. The letter successfully gives information about the new theatre, mentioning its location in Lahore near Emporium Mall and providing background on the entertainment company. Furthermore, the writer extends a warm invitation to the famous actor, Mr Fawad, and explains why he would be an ideal person to open the theatre due to his extensive experience in the field and his ability to assess productions and acting skills. The tone is polite, enthusiastic, and well-suited for a semi-formal/formal business invitation. All requirements of the prompt are fully addressed with relevant, adequately developed ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter exhibits a clear logical organization and progression throughout. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, with each paragraph addressing a distinct aspect of the prompt: an introduction and background in the first paragraph, details about the location and the invitation in the second paragraph, and the justification for choosing the actor in the third paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'Now', 'Furthermore' (or similar transitions), and referencing pronouns are used reasonably well, though some linking could be slightly smoother. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the letter flows naturally from beginning to end.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate and sufficient range of vocabulary for the task. Words and phrases such as 'entertainment company', 'opening ceremony', 'efficient actors', and 'assessment' are used correctly and fit the context well. There are occasional unnatural collocations or word choices, such as 'well famous' instead of 'well-known' or 'famous', and 'get benefit by' instead of 'benefit from', but these minor errors do not impede communication. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary with general success, maintaining a polite and professional tone appropriate for a business correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating reasonable control over basic grammar. Structures such as 'We are working as an entertainment company in Karachi for the last 20 years' (though tense choice could be refined to present perfect continuous with 'since' or 'for') and 'Another reason for inviting you is that...' display sentence variety. There are some noticeable grammatical errors, such as 'working... for the last 20 years' instead of 'have been working', and 'get benefit by' instead of 'benefit from'. However, punctuation is generally sound, and these errors occur infrequently enough that they rarely impede overall comprehension.
