Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. The writer introduces the entertainment company, gives information about the new theatre such as its location, capacity, and features like recliner seats and a massive screen, and extends a clear invitation to the actor Sonali for the opening ceremony on 22 September 2026. Furthermore, the letter successfully explains why she would be a good person to open the theatre by praising her hard work, talent, and status as a youth icon. The tone is suitably polite and enthusiastic for an invitation letter, although some ideas are slightly repetitive. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed adequately, meeting the criteria for a solid band 6.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent and follows a logical structure, moving from the purpose of the letter and theatre details to the invitation, compliments, and practical arrangements. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, such as the company details in the second paragraph and the praise in the third. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, starting sentences with 'Which is located...' creates a sentence fragment, and transitions between sentences can feel abrupt. Referencing is mostly clear, but the overall progression lacks smooth connective tissue. These features align the response with a band 6.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'accommodation', 'ceremony', and 'genuine'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'honer' instead of 'honor', 'greandview' instead of 'Grandview', 'affect' instead of 'effect', and 'companey' instead of 'company'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur with enough frequency to restrict the score to a band 5.5, as they demonstrate inconsistency in lexical accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'We are really hoping you will come for ribbon cutting ceremony' and 'Because of your hard work you achieve this position and become youth icon.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues, including missing articles ('at opening of our new theatre', 'for ribbon cutting ceremony'), tense inconsistencies ('achieve' instead of 'achieved'), and a major punctuation/syntax error with a sentence fragment ('Which is located near Saytama road...'). Although communication is generally maintained, the density of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at a band 5.5.
