Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the task instructions. You addressed the first bullet point by providing relevant information about the new theatre, mentioning that it is located in downtown Calgary, has a capacity of 1,200 seats, and features modern sound systems and a unique interior dedicated to entertainment legends. You fulfilled the second bullet point by explicitly inviting the actor to the opening ceremony on October 14, 2026. Finally, you successfully handled the third bullet point by explaining why he would be an ideal choice, noting that he is a successful and respected actor, popular with the local community, and an inspiration to young actors. All parts of the task are appropriately addressed with relevant details.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter maintains a clear, logical organisation and progression throughout. You begin with a standard opening, move into details about the theatre and the event, explain the reasoning for the invitation, and close with an appropriate sign-off. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate different ideas, such as theatre details, event timing, and reasons for the invitation. However, there are some minor cohesive issues, such as the repetitive use of transitional adverbs like 'However' and 'Moreover' at the start of multiple sentences, which makes the mechanical flow a bit noticeable. Overall, the ideas are logically sequenced and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to successfully communicate your message. You have attempted some less common vocabulary, such as 'entertainment company', 'opening ceremony', and 'memorable'. However, there are several word choice and lexical control issues, such as writing 'new entertainment company' missing an article ('a'), 'members of capacity' instead of seating capacity, and 'Dolby effects' rather than Dolby sound. Additionally, capitalisation errors like 'Located', 'Theatre', and 'Cinema' detract from precision. Despite these slips, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning without causing serious misunderstanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrated a mix of simple and complex sentence structures in your letter. For instance, you successfully integrated subordinate clauses, as seen in 'I chose you for this event because you are a successful and respected actor...' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly concerning articles ('on behalf of new entertainment company'), prepositions ('in Calgary Downtown', 'at Main Entrance', 'in event'), and capitalisation ('City of Canada', 'Such as'). Punctuation errors are also present, such as unnecessary comma splices and incorrect spacing after commas and periods. These errors occur regularly, but they do not impede overall communication.
