Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Mr. Gill,

Hope this letter finds you well and in the best of spirits.

The purpose of my writing today is to proudly inform you that the well-known Malta Group in the entertainment industry is going to open a brand-new cinema in your hometown. This will not only be a regular film theatre, it will be having advance experience equipment such as IMAX and UltraAVX. Additonally, there are projections to bring 3D and 4DX as will in the near future to provide the best ever experience to the audience.

I therefore would like you to invtite you as our chief guest. In fact, it would indeed be an honour for our organization if you shall perform the opening ceremony and watch the first movie along with the fans.

Given your multiple impactful blockbuster movies and TV shows to the industry, exceptional acting skills and being a local boy; all these facts make you a perfect choice to open the most advanced cinema in the area.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to receiving your confirmation promptly.

Yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. You introduce the new theatre by explaining that the Malta Group is opening a brand-new cinema equipped with advanced IMAX and UltraAVX technology. You clearly invite Mr. Gill to be the chief guest to open the venue, and you support this invitation by highlighting his successful blockbuster movies, exceptional acting skills, and local roots. The tone is appropriate for a formal business invitation letter, and the purpose is sustained throughout. All parts of the prompt are fully and effectively addressed, demonstrating strong task fulfilment.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Each paragraph serves a distinct purpose, moving smoothly from the greeting and introduction to the details of the theatre, the formal invitation, the supporting reasons, and finally the closing sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'Additonally', 'I therefore would like', and 'Given your multiple' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the text. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and effectively, ensuring that ideas are grouped logically and progress smoothly from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate and appropriate for a professional invitation. You attempt several less common items and industry-related collocations, such as 'chief guest', 'opening ceremony', 'impactful blockbuster movies', and 'confirmation promptly'. However, there are a few minor spelling and lexical errors, such as 'Additonally' instead of 'Additionally', 'advance experience equipment' instead of 'advanced experiential equipment', and a slight awkwardness in phrasing 'as will' instead of 'as well'. Despite these minor slips, the vocabulary successfully conveys the intended message without impeding understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and participial phrases ('Given your multiple impactful blockbuster movies... all these facts make you...'). The majority of sentences are grammatically sound and fully intelligible. However, there are a few grammatical inaccuracies and awkward constructions, such as 'it will be having advance experience equipment' (progressive tense misuse) and 'if you shall perform' (inappropriate modal verb usage). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are generally well controlled, and these minor errors do not impede communication.
